Critter Corner

TyBoo's little Skipper got his first haircut today. We wanted (or at least Kay wanted) to let his hair grow out like a show dog one time, and it was getting pretty long. However, we found out the last weekend on the boat that show dogs and boat dogs don't mix too well. He was like a little deck swabber and wet all the time. So, here he is back to boat dog grade:

hummmm, that little dog gets me thinking......It's looking like there's going to be a dire shortage of smelt this year..........

I figure a few more rocks won't make any difference....maybe you can get a chance to warm up your throwing arm Friday, may boat over to St H. to see if there's anybody we know over there

Man what a thread. Not much about pets, alot about some C-Dory owner getting neutered. ( Way back on the 1st page)

Anyway, on the week-end of the Lopez ron-de-view I will be solo-ing on Friday/nite, but making a bee-line to Guemes Is. on Sat to pick up the mythical and allusive Kate for a Sat night on the boat back at Lopez. (If the weather is good, she just added).

At any rate, back to the pet thingy. Our wonderful cat Nikko will be joining us for the overnight (first time on the boat) and so I want to let you all know...1..No dogs on our boat. 2. Don't come aboard and let the cat out. 3. If for some reason the cat gets lost on the dock or is seen swimming in the Marina I AM IN TROUBLE and there will be no more beer unless Pat brings it. Do they make a flotation device for a cat?

Now, where to put the litter pan???

on Pats boat :) let me know how the cat likes the boat ride. Ours jumps in the boat if I'm working in there and won't leave, been thinking about taking him for a ride someday. Some years back I ran into a couple that traveled to Cathlamet with a pair of Siamese cats.

And the other guy after HIS first visit to the groomer - Skipper's little cousin Oscar! I am SURE Oscar is looking forward to a face-to-face with Skipper!

Hey, Dave, er, David: I won't let the dog in, and if you need a cat sitter while you go play on Lopez, I'm your Catguy. The litter box is another matter.

David, the above still applies for Blakely. If kitty needs a playmate, trot her down Bambina Lane. I'll even bring that green leafy stuff that makes the goofy critters drool and roll. And yowell Grateful Dead tunes.
Beer for the Brats, nip for the cats.

So who else besides Blue*Sea and me have cats or dogs that dash out to help park, unpack, clean and appreciate your C-Dory? Sixteen pound Buster is such a critter. His specialty is sitting in his co-pilot seat and watching me fuss. He's also quite good at inspecting the v-berth for soft things to sleep on.

OK - this one takes the cake.

The Bow Lingual.

This device claims to analyze your dog's bark, and translate it into a human emotion you can understand.

Yeah, right....here's how it SHOULD work...

You: "Hey Sparky - what do you think of my new Bow Lingual? Now every time you yap, I'll know exactly what you're saying!"

Sparky: "Woof woof ruff yip."

Translation: "Man, you are dumber than you look. Next time you have an urge to throw away $80, just buy me some Snausages."

I just noticed a picture in "Brave Hearts" photo album of their cat that was featured in their local newspaper. Catman, you should take a look at their cat after being "cat scanned".
Bill and Evelyn, you are being much to modest in not highlighting this important "media event" in the message threads! Glad, that I caught it, so that I could help publicize this event. :cat

Brock should put that "cat scan" up in radiology at Northwest Hospital!

Does anyone have a recommendation for dealing with dogs on board? We're planning to bring Porsche & Charlie (our two Cavaliers) and would like to hear how to make it easier....

Thanks,
mac

Absolutely. Bring plenty of catnip, a few of those little rubber mice, the ones with the extra long tails, and a small, portable scratching post. I think that way your guys will be happier and sleep better.

1. Pet Calm - Herbal Biscuits or Dramamine
2. Plenty of Pickup bags. I've yet to find any while traveling.
3. Waterless Shampoo - they'll find something to get into!
4. Meaty bone to keep them occupied and for you to trip over when they are finished with it.
5. Portable water/dish for taking on long walks.

Remember, if you can't hold your bare foot on their walking surface (asphalt or concrete) for 10 seconds without burning yourself, they can't either.

We always carry those plastic grocery bags with us and when we take the dog for "shore walks" we have those in our pockets so when needed we can scoop up after the pup. Usually, I carry it around with me until I find a trash can, but if I'm returning to the dock right away I save the bag until I find a 16' C-Dory by the name of "Bambina" and just toss the loaded bag in her! (That drives Brock and his cats nuts! :wink )

(By the way........welcome to the group!)
