Its That time of year that you have to record your catch cards. You can do so online, which is very easy. I hope that all of you do it. Only 30% of crabbers did it last year. This is bad in a lot of ways. if you do not enter your card your self you still get counted as crabbing and most likely for a far higher number then you caught. The system will assign you the "Average". so if you only got out there one or two days and only caught 10 crab total you could be counted as catching 30 crab for the season. Many folks that buy the crab card don't keep any. Its very important to record those cards because it lower the average. This effects are seasons for this winter and for next year.

Note: area 7 crab is still open BUT you have to record any area 7 crab as Winter crab and report your Summer crab NOW. That means you Dave.

Heres the web site for the state.http://wdfw.wa.gov/news/release.php?id=aug2911a

And if you don't register your count, next year you are charged an extra $20 if you want a card.

its $10 but yes if you dont record your card its extra
next year.

Hmmm. We don't have "crab cards" here on the Right Coast. Not sure what the commercial folks do or how they report but an individual can have up to 5 "pots" with no license or report. And you can catch as many as you like off of your shore or pier.

Yes, but they aren't Dungies.

Amen to that! After trying to deal with a couple of Charlie's so-called "crabs" at the Great Eastern Shore CBGT, I switched to Terry's red hots and white hots! Takes 20 of those little suckers to get the same amount of crab as we get out of one good dungie!

Done, too. Hopefully we get a decent shot at fall/winter crab!

The best way to get a winter season is to record your summer cards. Please remind all those you know, those that got a card jut to fish with you for one day, your kids and your neighbors to record there cards.

once they have the online count they will run the numbers and see if we have enough quota left to get a winter season

WELL,,, it should be $20

it should be a a$$ kicking for not caring and tilting the numbers in favor of the commercials.

What keeps people honest when they report? Are the cards turned in and checked against the online entries for each guy? Seems like a lot of bureaucratic waste either way.

It's the "honor" system.

its a step up from the old system of wild ass guess. that was when a plan flew over one day a year and counted bouys in one area . Then they used that number to guess the number of bouy in all areas. then the did a "survey" of people returning to a port on a certain number of days to see what they kept. This gave them a average that they use to decide what every one in the state caught during the season. it was a joke. The commerials loved it, they should they came up with it, because it over estimated ,WAG, the number of crap the sportys where getting and shorten our season every year. Do everyone a favor and fill out the card and go on line and record it. thank you.
