collapsible deck chairs

Does anyone know of anyone who makes these with a NON-MARKING bottoms?

I'm not talking about the fold up kind you can get at boaters world. I want some that fold up into a bag.

Seems like there are a 100 companies making these things for the campers, but nothing for the boating market.

Any suggestions?

chewyjackson-

If you can't find a "mark-less" boating version of what you want, I'd suggest you buy the style you want and simply change or modify the feet/pads to accomodate the boat without marking it up.

You'll have to be a bit creative in figuring out how to cover up or change-out the foot pads, but it should be easy and the "RV" stuff in general is considerably cheaper than something with "Marine" marked on it.

Life is what you make of it. I'm trying to make mine cheaper so I can afford to live longer! Joe.

I think you were referring to the tube chairs. Fold up to go in a long and round tube (bag). Walmats have them. Cheep in cost. Color to suit you "yacht" and very comfortable. Forget the marine stores. To much money.

Got ours at Costco for $15.00 a couple of years ago. Great quality. I still don't understand how they can make these in China, ship them here, and sell them for a profit. I guess if you sell a million of them and only make a dime each, that would do it

I have a couple of the 'cheap' foldup chairs that fit into tube bags. I really like them. They have never left a mark in my cockpit, the feet are just hard black plastic (no rubber or neoprene). What kind of mark do they leave for you? Or like Joe says, just mod the feet with a layer of starboard or white crutch tips or?

If your real worried about the marks you could buy a can of that "liquid plastic" that they coat tool handles with. Not sure how durable it would be though.

Just like Dora Jean said, we have the cheap ones (in green of course) which fold-up into a bag. They haven't left any marks that we can see. Plus, they're easy to store. Try 'em, you might like 'em.

I haven't tried any yet.

I figured the black bottom ones would leave marks.

Maybe I'm wrong....

We've got the fold up chairs too. We use a layer of indoor/outdoor carpeting though, on top the dri-deck over the standard deck and of course, get no marks... Kind of hard to get out of after a few scotches though...

Here's a passing observation aboaut this type of chair:

I've got several from two differrent sources, and the Coleman brand weight only about half as much as the Shakespeare brand.

I'm pretty sure the difference is attributable to an aluminum alloy tube structure in the Colemans as opposed to steel tubing in the Shakespeares.

The steel frame may be stronger, but I personally prefer the lighter alloy ones for the C-Dory.

Joe.

The main problem with the fold up chairs, they rust. We have replaced them every year. I would pay more for a quality chair, made of aluminum and stainless steel. The last three sets have rusted frames and rivets. The last set was new when we went to Florida for the winter. Rust is starting to show through the powder coat already. Anyone know where to get quality chairs?

Brent-

A suggestion:

Take a magnet with you and look for some made of aluminum.

Joe.

Hi Folks,

Most of the tube chairs are made of aluminum, not steel. The steel ones are to heavy. Also I have never had a problem with marking from the leg bottoms.

What I like about them, I can fold them up, bag them, and leave them on the forward bunk.

Keep looking. You will find what you want at a fair price, in the color you want.

Like Fred said, WalMart has 'em at a reasonable cost -- been using them for 6 years; mostly on salt water -- no problem and so comfortable we fall asleep in them.
