Man, what a major disappointment!
For years I had worked the show for a dive shop where I worked as a scuba instructor, as a salesman/owner of Jeanneau sailboats and then as a staff member/editor for Great Lakes Sailor magazine. At that time (20 years ago) the show covered almost 750,000 square feet of the IX Center, which was used as a tank plant durig WW II.
This year there were VERY few boats there compared to even a few years ago. There were only three cruising sailboats and the only powerboats that grabbed our attention were a few Parkers. Instead of spending many hours, and sometimes a few days, walking the show, we were in and out in about an hour. I've been to shopping mall boat shows that were bigger.
Hopefully the dealers who were not in attendance were hunkering down and avoiding the high cost of exhibiting, rather than being out of business.
