Chesapeake to Oriental, NC

This is entirely an exploratory post.
Since I don't trailer, and my schedule at The Mainstay gives me just a few spaces of time, I am considering a 16 day trip this September..maybe from September 2 to September 17. From Rock Hall, to Whittaker Point , North Carolina, site of the C Dory gathering. (I can't make that).
I've let Tracy and Larry of Dragonfly know of this possibility and they are going to give me some advice. I travel at 7.3kts on the Ranger 25.

If any of you would like to join this trip, that would be great. I might even have a space for a fellow traveller on my boat.

Excuse me if i have not been very specific about the destination..but it is Whittaker Pointe.

I am fine with down to Norfolk...hve done that often..but from there, new water for me.

Can't speak from experience (yet), but do the Great Dismal Swamp Canal, going one way at least.
Take a look at http://www.cruisingguide.com for gen info, then go to "cruising news from NC" and buy the book"Young's Cruising Guide to Coastal North Carolina" it's got all the things you need to know about what to find/do everywhere along the way (we have it).
We hope to do the Canal by boat one of these months, have been along it & to the visitor center several times by car, and would like to someday do the NC 'mini-loop" and get both branches of the ICW and all the neat stopping places.
Sept. probably a good time to do it.

This site is amazing...your info is what i needed and i'll proceed. I have heard the Great Dismal trip is wonderful...and i never heard of the NC mini loop...sounds like a plan.

I'm hoping for the first two weeks of September.
