Ches Bay CBGT: Bahamas-Bound Interest/2007?

Ken - I was hoping to launch in Florida, not Boston - I think you left out a turn somewhere. And although I do get vacations, my idea of fun (and Patty's) is NOT six or eight 500 mile days of driving each way. Realistically, we would fly out in a heartbeat, but we would need to hitchhike on somebody's boat (hint, hint)...

Interstate From To Miles

Longest Interstate Routes:
I-90 Seattle, WA to Boston, MA 3,020.54 miles
I-80 San Francisco, CA to Teaneck, NJ 2,899.54 miles
I-40 Barstow, CA to Wilmington, NC 2,555.40 miles
I-10 Los Angeles, CA to Jacksonville, FL 2,460.34 miles
I-70 Cove Fort, UT to Baltimore, MD 2,153.13 miles

Nick: Count me as very interested. I couldn't commit this early but that time of year would definitely work.

Pat: You get Daydream to Florida by making a left when you hit the freeway instead of a right. In 2001 when I retired, we hooked my 19' Arima up behind the camper and 10 days later we were in Key West. Of course we stayed two months so all the driving seemed worthwhile. How about a caravan of Northwesters heading for Florida?

My plan is to stay South....drive from Camarillo (near LA) to Texas.....launch for a day or two....then East to Biloxi ...launch for a day or two....and sorta bumble my way along.... I am not real busy these days...so my schedule is real flexable....March. April, May whatever....

Pat,
I was just getting you heading in the right direction. We did a lot of meandering on our trip in 2001. Went through St. Louis to visit with family. As a straight drive I could do it in 5 days without too much strain. But after that much driving, I agree with Nick, I would want a month in the islands.

Important notice,
If bound for the Bahamas, be sure you have no time constraints. You could easily wait two weeks for a good crossing. That applys both directions. That alone could take up a whole month of waiting just for the right day. Waiting is no problem cause there is fun things to do on both sides of the Gulf Stream. Some times you can cross the next morning winter or summer. Odds are worse in mid winter though. I look for a day or two after something out of the north. That should give you a day or two before it goes back to the north. The reason I say a day or two is because if it was a big blow out of the north it could take two days for it to lie down.
If this trip comes together for 07 maybe I can convince Dee to one more time. Problem is that I say that every time.

Hmmm...OK, so I guess I tell them at work maybe I'll be back and maybe I won't...no, wait, we still use money... Or, mabye we fly TO the Bahamas rather than to Florida, hitch with Joel for the time we are all there, and fly back from the Bahamas, leaving all you retired folks the luxury of waiting on the winds and seas...how does that plan work? The only downside is we are there on one side and you are waiting on the other. But we could think of worse places to be waiting!
