Charcoal grill on a gas boat?

I am used to the propane magma grills, I want to try a charcoal grill this time around because of the flavor, and the ability to pick up fuel in the remote islands where I will cruise. But I have usually had diesel boats and that is not that flammable. I'm wondering what others have done being that this grill will be rail mounted and sitting roughly 6 feet away from 100 gallons of gas. Propane is instant off, charcoal could spill etc... I've no doubt this has been talked about before but just thought I would query the gallery.

We have used a Magma charcoal grill on our C-Dories for many years. But I fabricated an adaptor for the rod holder socket so that the grill is out over the water. This keeps any hot coals from dropping in the cockpit. Also I generally don't empty the ash until the next morning when the coals have cooled. The setup has worked well for us.
 
We have used both propane and charcoal grills on the boats--I think the safety is about the same. If you had gasoline fumes catch fire/explode--you are not gong to have time to turn off the propane any way--throw the whole thing in the dink if you have to...(maybe a lanyard on the base?)...There are all sorts of mounts, and we also have kept ours usually over the water.
