Changing props on our Tohatsu 9.8 Kicker

I am looking into changing the prop on our 2011 9.8 Tohatsu long shaft. We would be moving to a to a 7 pitch (part # 3B2B645140 3 blades). I am hoping this will provide more thrust and control. My dealer indicates there is a 4 blade available as well for about $30.00 more.

The 9.8 Tohatsu is our get home/trolling motor on our 22 cruiser with a Honda BF 90.

Will the 4 blade allow us to move at hull speed more efficently without having the Tohatsu running at full throttle or will the 3 blade work? Any feed back on the prop change would be appreciated.

Your 9.8 should have no problem getting you to hull speed, a lower pitch prop will make it even better. I had difficulty maintaining hull speed with my Yamaha 6HP until I replace the prop for a lower pitch and bigger blade prop. Now I can get to hull speed with a bit over half throttle, Be mindful that often more throttle will reduce your efficiency as your prop will spin too fast to get a good grab on the water (Cavitate).
