celebrity in the house

SENSEI

saw on the news tonite that our own Dave S. was one of the Arlington Firemen that had the opportunity to meet our Nations supreme Commander this afternoon.

so Dave, did you draw the short straw?

I think there is a better description for Dave than "celebrity"... he is a GOOD MAN. :thup :thup I can only imagine what the rescue workers have dealt with there... and send my gratitude for Dave and the others like him who do what they do.

Not to be political in ANY sense, but there was a brush with greatness... I'm sure the President felt it, too.

Thank you, Dave.

Respectfully,
Jim

Thanks, Dave, for your great heart. You are one of the best men I know and one of my personal heroes.

Disregard the snide comments - they likely came from brains matching the font size. And they really pissed me off.

I was just thinking about Dave, C-Shift, and her crew! We love those guys and have been missing them! What have you been up to, Dave? Do you still follow C-Brats?

He does , Pat! He's been busy, probably daily, with the mud slide rescues. Saw a picture in the Post yesterday of the President shaking hands with some of the rescuers and wondered if one of them was Dave.

Yep...I'm still here and yes like Bris's son I shook his hand on Tuesday. When we were shaking hands I presented him with our fire department's challenge coin. After he handed it to his aide for safe keeping, he turned around to me again and slipped his Presidential coin in my hand. Not long after, numerous fire department coins came out of pockets and he exchanged them for Presidential coins.

He was truly a warm and compassionate man. He was very sincere in his words of appreciation for our participation in the rescue/recovery efforts over the past month.

There were many fantastic individuals from across our country that were involved in this massive effort, not only with "boots on the ground" but with an outpouring of financial assistance for those survivors of the destruction of their homes. The local folks of Oso, Darrington and Arlington prepared fine home cooked meals in the early days. (Homemade biscuits and gravy for breakfast, BBQd chicken and ribs for supper, homemade pies, casseroles. pasta dishes etc.).

For some of us that were commuting daily from Arlington to work on the Darrington side of the slide, some residents of Darrington opened their homes so we could spend the night there so we weren't having to drive the long way around each night.

It was truly neighbor helping neighbor.

(Bris, I sent you a pm).

Dave,

Congrats and thank you for your excellent service. A real hero and a very special guy.

Thanks Harvey, but I certainly don't consider myself a hero....I'm just one of many folks that are at the right place at the right time to be able to help others in their time of need.

You're still one of my heroes, and I don't have very many of those.

Oh yeah, just like you and Jessica happened to be in Mississippi after Katrina.
