Cdory 16 vs Cdory 19

Oops, one other thing to consider.

Your age and physical conditioning may be a factor in deciding between a 16 and a 19 footer. My wife and I are in our sixties. I'm 6'3" @ 185 lbs. My wife is 5'3" @ 110 lbs. We both exercise four - five times a week. All of our classes include balance exercises.

The 16 ft. C-Dory is very sensitive to weight changes from side to side, especially at slow speeds or anchorage. A person can be literally thrown from one side of the boat to the other. This could be an issue if someone has a problem with their balance.

The larger boats (19 and 22) are much more stable. Just a thought... be safe and have fun.

Very true!

And if you think a ~1200 lb CD-16 is lively, try a 14 foot 300 lb sailboat with a 22 foot mast (an upside down pendulum), or a 16 foot square ended canoe that's 40 inches wide and weighs 150 lbs with a motor and all gear!

I'm 71 and they get narrower, lighter, and more tippy by the year!

I'd only consider a 16 for freshwater or mostly inshore use at my age.

I can still launch and retrieve the CD-22 with ease.

The 22 is the best boat for the $$, is the most re-sellable, and has more features for all kinds of use.

The 19 is OK, but why not get the extra room and features of the 22 for the same money?

Fish (+crabbing and shrimping) exclusively? Get the Angler. All around use? The Cruiser.

Had they not developed the 19 when they did during they heyday of boat building and selling, I doubt they would today.

1. It requires the same power and gets the same gas mileage as the 22.

2. It needs a set of trim tabs and a Permatrim to keep from porporsing, and

3. The Angler can be ordered or had used with an open rear bulkhead, if that's one's desired feature.

It's sorta like buying a pickup with both the short cab and the short bed. Maybe for some, but not for me, at least.

Just my 2 cents, for free!

Joe. :teeth :thup

I have friends with 16s & 22s. I wouldn't trade my 19 for either. The 16 is like shoes that are too tight & the 22 is wasted unused space unless you are using your boat as camper. vern

vern,

Sounds like your boat fits you perfectly - score!

The 22 Cruiser suits me well right now, but if I were not going to be camping/living aboard, and if a 16 was too small, I think I might consider a 22 Angler. Even now I just drool over that extra cockpit space. I actually wish they would make a 24 Cruiser that was a combination of the 22 Cruiser cabin and the 22 Angler cockpit :smiled

Thank you Chromer, that sure is a fine lookin boat you have there!! I must admit, in a moment of weakness, I have been known to lust for the extra room aft on the 22 angler, but I'm happy as a clam!!!

Sunbeam,

Do you know (I'm sure you do) about Voyager, Old Growth Dave's 18, and how it got that way? Hmmmm, you could grow a 24 and have the best of both worlds, and then you might "need" twins

Just sayin here

Ha! Yep, guess if I want a 24 Cruiser I'll have to make my own. Wouldn't that be sweet? However, I think I will exercise some willpower and just enjoy the 22 for awhile yet :D

I really enjoy that series in the albums about how the 18 was made. Very cool.

PS: If, instead of lengthening the 22's cockpit, I simply obtained a 22 Angler and then did some cutting and pasting, I'd end up with not only my 24 Cruiser, but also the makings for a "20" (the Angler cabin with the Cruiser cockpit)
