We had about 20 cats from some of our irresponsible neighbors making a unbelievable mess about our place. I like to keep peace with the neighbors whom, I for the most part enjoy & for years we had "house" cats too, so tried a long list of so called humane measures to solve their invasion. In the long run nothing on that list worked & fortunately for me the state of Wyoming is I believe the last one left that allows cats to be treated the same as raccoons or skunks if on your property. Also fortunate for us the raccoons & skunks, which we have a plenty, have never been a problem like the cats. My cat problem has been solved, but no doubt will return & have to be dealt with on a on going basis. I won't describe those solutions here, but will be glad to at the Cathlemant Gathering & I think you will enjoy the tale.

I guess I can consider myself lucky then. In my neighborhood we have mountain lions that patrol at night, that keep the feral cat population at near zero. Had a squirrel once or twice in the boat but at least they are not that destructive. .22 cb caps with a suppressor tube worked very well on the crows down in the valley. All you heard was the firing pin. Tick!!! Crows learn fast! Vern

Charlie said it all. I used moth balls wrapped in a paper towel to keep cats and other curious creatures out of our boat. The moth balls were so effective that cats even ceased marking the tires and wheels on the boat trailer. Simple, effective, and safe (all of the moth balls remained untouched).

Appropriate and LEGAL. Personally, I...uhm....dislike anyone who would intentionally injure, torture or kill someone's pet for any reason other than it is a clear and present danger/threat to humans, be it cat, dog or other.....there are animal cruelty laws for a reason and the sort of actions some here are advocating is..uhm...disturbing to say the least.

I can only imagine the hate & discontent from neighbors that would have bloomed if I had called County Animal Control for my cat problem. Yes, no such thing exist here other than the one town cop & when my daughter in law called him for a skunk, while my son was at work the cop just shot it in their back yard leaving a stink that lasted for what they thought forever.
Perhaps even more disturbing that what disturbs Mark (other than the torture of animals which I find reprehensible for any reason) is going out to your boat in the spring to remove the cover & finding diarrhea cat crap from a sick feral cat all over the top of the boat including the cockpit cover & it's sides & then finding the whole area under the boat had been used as a litter box. I had to dig out & remove an area about 6 x 15 feet by 6 inches deep that consisted of at least 50% cat crap while wearing a respirator to protect me from this http://theweek.com/article/index/246662 ... ou-thought And this event was after years of watching my summer song & hummingbird population be killed off more & more each year to near extinction. At the same time noticing the ferrel & cats owned by the varying neighbors increasing every year due to these same owners unwilling to have their cats spayed or stopped from roaming. Just one neighbor had at least 6 cats who roamed & also fed the strays which caused even more to gather.
I do have sympathy for the cats that were finally made to disappear, but absolutely none for their owners that finally forced me to take the measures I did of which zero were breaking any laws. I've lost much of the enjoyment in hunting as I've got older & find the killing part more & more distasteful & really resent the people who have forced me to take the actions necessary to solve my cat problem.

I've had mothballs deployed for a few days now and catacvity has noticably decreased. It's not as fun running my trap line now.
Jay- the skunk story is a classic, I didn't think they ever gave Barny Fife a bullet.

Ken, my son is here now for the football game & he just shared a bit more about Barney & the skunk. He said "it was their neighbor who called the cop & his wife didn't know anything was going on until she heard a shot a few feet from their back door in the yard & then him knocking on the door asking for a garbage bag".
