Considering taking boat and truck camper there next spring. Anyone familiar with boat ramp there, just wondering if there is plenty of room ,we measure around 58ft with truck camper and boat. Looks like you could go down cape Fear river to South Port ,Bald Island ect. Not sure how many miles to get to South Port? We try to find campgrounds that have ramps or marinas. Was just on their site, dont think they have electric at sites, but that would be okay. Think the intercoastal is right there. Other option is camp on otherside of South Port, Oak Island area and launch at Southport? Any suggestions welcome.

Very nice park-low key and under used.
The camp ground is clean and quiet and access is controlled at night.
Just outside the gate (1 mile) are many nice restaurants, stores, gas stations, and grocery stores. The ramp has good access at all tides. It is concrete and easy to get in and out. There is room at the ramp to load and turn-I see 30 footers launched there. The marina has gas, showers and wet slips for transients. The short channel from the marina opens to the Cape Fear River (ICW) at Snows Cut. Pay attention to the channel-it gets shallow and you will see sailboats run aground here. Check the Carolina Beach State Park web site for more info-good site. Also check the Active Captain web site for good info. Cape Fear river is wide with tankers and freighters passing up to Wilmington (also good place for a day trip-tie up downtown or motor past the USS North Carolina battleship). Head South and visit Southport and Bald Head Island (nice marina-rent a bike or golf cart-no cars on island) Look out for the two ferries that run in this area. You will also pass the US Gov. ammo docks on starboard-don't get too close-they will chase you out! Watch the channel in the Cape Fear river and you will be OK-keep look out for possible large floating debris. Tides are OK and minimal but can get exciting if a good blow comes up. At this point you can peek out into the Atlantic is weather is good or you can go South on the ICW. You will enjoy this trip.
