Morning Folks
Any comments about the strengths and weaknesses of the 22 CDory Cruiser compared to the 23 Cape Cruiser. They both look like great boats.
There are clearly more consumer features on the Cape Cruiser and the price is very competitive. I'm aware of the uncertainty about warranty if there are hull issues but are there other things to be looked at. The Cape Cruiser was a first year (and I guess last year) production and new products often have at least some minor issues.
Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks - Hank

Hank- We've had our 23 for about a year and are happy thus far.We bought it used and have had no major issues. The metal handle on the starboard window came off & thats about it.We can"t count how many people have asked us if our boat is a C-dory.They are similar and I assume thats why the Tolands lost the law suit. The new Ventures are more "plush" inside but we prefer the simple interior which is like the C-dorys.I don't think you'd go wrong with either boat.

Hank-

Those early threads about the Cape Cruiser when it first came out have some very interesting and through comparisons between the two boats, plus some unhappy thoughts from some C-Brats who resented the new CC being built in competition to the C-Dory, so read them with that in mind and just look for the comparative information.

The Tolands built very high quality boats when they owned C-Dory, and I'm sure the Cape Cruisers are very well built as well. We've heard of very few problems with the CC's, at least as I remember. Cape Cruiser's quality control was obviously quite high.

Don't confuse the Cape Cruiser with the newer Venture 23 by C-Dory. They are the same boat from the same mold, but the Venture 23 was done over inside to be an upscale and plush bigger sister to the CD-22.

The original CC was pretty obviously a re-designed and slightly over-sized CD-22 which attempted to correct some of the minor faults of the 22: a larger cockpit, a closed in engine well, wider gunnels, deeper v-sections forward in the hull, a taller cabin, a redesigned galley and dash, and several other features make the boat a bit more up-dated. Two other features that might interest you are a reversible, forward facing front passenger seat, and cockpit floorboards. These were added to the C-Dories as options in later years, and I think, but I'm not sure, that they were standard on the CC.

There's a great photo comparison of the CC-23 and the CD-22 on RedFox's website HERE that was done by Three Rivers Marine, who was first a CD and then a CC dealer.

Don't forget, too, that the basic CD-22 has undergone it's own evolution over the years with the addition of the forward facing seat, floorboards, clear cabin door, and fiberglass interior features among others.

We always advise prospective owners to go to a C-Brat Get Together to be able to see all the CD models and get to know folks around here. If you look carefully, get lucky, and choose with that in mind, you might find one that has a Cape Cruiser in attendance.

Good Luck with your search!

Having both boats I agree with seawolf .The cc 23 has a larger cockpit ,floorboards , barber seat (forward facing ) and just a better ride in a mild chop. The storage is about the same I like the rear cockpit storage on the cd-22 better about the same in the cabin. but i do like the new fiberglass finish of the cc-23 although the new cd-22 has a similar finish. Both boats do about 32 mph with 90 on cd-22 and f115 on the cc-23 . Both get simlilar mpg which is suprising ? The cd-22 is easier to tow and move around when you beach them . the cc-23 is a heavier boat about 2800lbs vs 2000lb . We decided on the cc-23 because of the bigger cockpit area for my wife and friends . they love the sun . Good luck in your search JIM on Duck and cc-23 name to be annouced later

Thanks for the info

JK - sounds like you bought the boat that was for sale in FL. I was a day late - it looked like a great deal

To me the 23 looks more stream line do to the roof line than the 22 CD. I wonder if the roof on the 23 is high enough for a roof top air. CD in the picture is a high top. Can't tell it in this picture but the CC's cockpit sure looks much larger and the canvas is definately a lot nicer than the standard CD'S.
