Cape Cruiser 23 Desirability

Hey Guys, I was able to work out a deal on the boat! The surveyor gave me the thumbs up, and the owner came down significantly to where I feel comfortable having the interior restoration done by a professional. I picked her up this past weekend and brought her back to her new home in Port St Joe, FL. Took her out for the maiden voyage on this weekend and had a great time! Snapped a couple pics and posted in the dropbox link below...

Thanks everyone for your advice and guidance!

Congrats on the boat :thup

Your links just go to a dropbox log-in page for me. There are a few ways to get them on the forum (link to an image stored on the web, upload to an album and link to that), but one tip holds true: If you Preview your post and the images don't look right, then they won't show up when you submit the post either. To the good, this means you can Preview your post over and over to get it right, then just submit once at the end.

Can't wait to see the pics... new boooaaaat!

You have an album here that you can use, use it! Or use Photobucket. What you need to put between the
tags is the "image URL," that ends in .jpg!

PICT0037.sized.jpg

was produced by
Code:

.

I just display the image, right click and choose "Copy image URL." Then I paste it between the image tags,
.

Clear as mud?

Ugh, I'm struggling with getting pics on the board. Let me work on it.

I would be happy with 22 cruiser or 23 venture. After Dave ,with boat Cocoon took us out on his venture a couple seasons ago. I have been planning on purchasing a venture eventually. I wish I was at a gathering to compare side by side the two boats for roominess ect. My question is how hard is it to find a used venture when ready? I see plenty of 22 cruisers available. Can you find them on craiglist e-bay any suggestions on where to look? What dealer would you suggest if buying new? Are they still manufacturing them? Distance wouldn't matter for such a big purchase, would be more interested in having dealer that works well with buyer. Im thinking wefings ,just not sure who manufactures them ,since ive read about companies changing hands a few times with C-Dorys

The current factory is still manufacturing Ventures. Since the Venture series got started shortly before the economy tanked, not as many have been made. So used ones come up far less often than 22CDs. I'd bet there are 10-20x more 22CD's out there than Ventures. That said, used ones come up occasionally. But you can alway buy a new one.

Larry,

If you are anywhere near being ready to buy a CC23 I would CAREFULLY look at the sale notice for CC23 SLOGO.

The vessel is in Arkansas as I recall ... not that far from you. The boat is VERY well equipped, and the custom cabinetry is simply amazing. In my opinion, this boat may be the best example currently out there, for a used (slightly used...) CC23. Look at it!

As for the frequency of used CC23 (or CC26's) being on the market - it's difficult to say. From my research it appears there were only about 50 CC23 or CC26's manufactured before they were absorbed into the C-Dory line. With that low number of boats it's not every day you find them, and finding one like SLOGO is truly amazing. If we didn't already have a CC23 ("Dessert 1st") we would seriously be looking at SLOGO. Hmmm ... sets my mind to Thinking.

To answer your other question, YES you can certainly order a brand new CD23 Venture from the factory. If money isn't a major issue that might be your perfect answer. With a new boat, you could have it set up exactly the way you want it out of the 'gate. ...aah, to be so fortunate! If you're interested in new, talke to Mark at Weffings (Applachicola, FL)

You should also be aware that in the lower right part of the CBrat opening page there are a number of C-Dory's (and Cape Cruisers) that are advertised for sale.

Good Luck!

Best,
Casey&Mary

Thanks Roger and Casey for information. Casey that is a beautiful boat. In process of saving rest of what we need to make a purchase . Maybee I can talk Joanne the wife into making a move earlier than we planned. God willing will be getting to meet you guys sooner or later, until then hope everyone enjoys this season. I keep saying to her we would be able to sleep on boat at marina instead of camping at places we go now Erie and Cayuga Lake. We checked out slips at Lampne Marina a few weeks ago at Erie ,made a few friends just walking the docks. One guy said what did you lose your boat ,we said no were picking a slip for next season. Talked a good while he said he would show us some good fishing spots when we want to go and to look him up., then while leaving another guy showed us his boat,he was putting up privacy curtains so as to get girlfriend to start living on it with him. That's when I reminded wife we better get this C-Dory sooner than later.

Larry,

Like many other 'Brats, we use our CC23 both as a boat AND a travel trailer.

In 2013, when we were traveling to Prince Rupert (prior to the last trip to AK), we "boaterhomed" (camped in the boat) along the way for six weeks before launching in PR. Then three months on the boat exploring SE AK, then another six weeks enroute back to FL.

All together it was over six months living on the boat. It works ... IF you have the right Companion!

We also have a 24' travel trailer, but don't use it much and will probably sell it later this year. As we've told several friends: The boat works pretty well as a travel trailer; but the travel trailer doesn't work worth a damn as a boat!

Best,
Casey&Mary

Casey good to know that you can spend that amount of time on boat using it when traveling and on the water and be comfortable. We spend weeks in our truck camper at a time,so were used to making due. Reading all these great trips St Johns river gathering ,North Carolina dismal swamp loop and Lake Powel and the others look like some excellent times. Looking forward to when we can join in.

Just a quick heads up.

There are many iterations of the CD 22 and more than one of the 23. The Cape Cruiser 23 had the "next generation" hull that was developed from the 22 original but may, or may not, have had all the creature comforts/unnecessary additions built in that Fluid Marine put in the 23 Venture. Some of these features were the interior foam lining, galvanic isolator etc. etc. We can argue whether they made the boat better or worse but they added cost/value. When I saw a new 23 Venture earlier this year (photos in our album) many of these had been omitted or changed to reduce cost/price. The hull, however, is still the Venture hull with all that means.

Just make sure you are comparing apples with apples.
