Canvas and Bug Screen

A week or so ago I was considering selling my CD25 and posted some pictures of the canvas and the bug screen on the cabin door opening, etc. I have received several inquiries from members on those items.

I have answered them, but some came back as "undeliverable" so today when I received another question I decided to post the info for anyone who is interested, including 416 Rigby whose message came today.

Both the canvas cockpit enclosure and the bug screen were done by:

Custom Marine Canvas of Rio Vista, Ca.. Office also at the Oxbow Marina. Operated by Hans Kogler. Hans runs a one man operation. All work is custom. It took a couple of weeks for him to complete our installation.

The cockpit enclosure was around $3500-3600.00 I think the bug screen was a bit under $200.

That's fairly expensive, but when I had the boat in for service at the dealer's in Alameda/Oakland, the GM said that the word got out to all of the many other dealers and boat shops.

Dealers and boat owners were crowding around my CD taking pictures and commenting on the top, etc. He had never had that happen before.

Hans gets the credit. We told him our ideas and he designed it and made it happen.

Hans can be reached at:

Oxbow Marina--(916)-777-6378 or Rio Vista--(707)374-2290

If he needs to use our boat as a pattern, I'll make it available. It is no longer at Rio Vista as when Hans originally did the work. It's now at Antioch Marina, only half an hour farther away.

PM me, if this is necessary. The phone number he has for us is no longer correct.

The price of that bug screen is half the cost of ordering a opening window for the door and the zippered screen looks very nice and has way more ventilation. We think this might be the option for us. What we are unsure of is if the 25's door opening is larger than the opening for the 22? The acutal opening for our 2001 22ft cruiser is 21" by 58.5". What is the acutal opening size of your door. :?: :?:
Thanks again for the info.

416, my boat is an hour away from me, or I'd measure it right now. It will be a couple of days at least before I get over there.

Do you know anyone who has a 25 nearby and can measure it now?

If not, I'll measure it as soon as I go out there.

Don

416 Rigby, now that I think about it, they changed the door in '05 just before we ordered our boat. If you do have someone measure, be sure it's the newer door.

Don

Thanks Don

We are in no hurry at all. We don't have anyone close by with a 25. We climbed in a 25 once and seem to recollect that the door was a lot bigger. Don't make a special trip over to your boat.
Whenever you do get over there then it would be very much appreciated if you'd measure for us. When we do contact the man that did your screen then we will just let him know that our size is smaller or the same....
Once again thanks so much

Rick and Donna, I'll definitely get out there this week. I'll post the results.

Incidentally, I hunted Alaska several times back in the 60s and 70s.

I could have called myself .300 Weatherby.

While on my boat I measured my door opening -- this is the 'cavity dimensions' that the door fits into, may not be the same as "the opening" measured on the CD22, but sounds like the doors are pretty similar if not the same. Mine measures 21 1/2" x 59 5/8".

Thanks so much for measuring. The doors sure are very close in size. I wonder if they are all slightly different. I measured to the inside of the black trim.
Thanks again

I took the solid canvus cover that goes over the door to a canvus maker and they made a bug screen using it as a model. That way the snaps were in the proper location (not the same on all 25 footers). with the screen in place we can be under way with the door open and bugs can't get in. Same with at anchor.

The total cost was $30.00. a lot less then a sliding window door replacement. Picture available by email if wanted.
