Canadian C-D Owners

Hi all fellow Canucks,

Seems like the Zip / Postal Code and Thumb Tack feature does not work for Canadian addresses. Are there any owners in Ontario, around the Ottawa region ? Only Canadian dealer in Ontario seems defunct and closest dealer is in the U.S. in Meredith, New Hampshire - 8 hours away. Nice drive but anything floating on the St. Laurence River ?

Didn't meet any owners or see any C-Dorys while cruising through your part of the world -- but, want to add -- you have some of the most scenic and marvelous cruising anywhere -- perhaps you will want to host a Gathering in your neck of the woods to share that beauty with other C-Brats.

Thanks El and Bill,

I have not been on board one yet since I do not know of any CD owners in my driving area hence the question !. This is very preliminary / dream stage, but I am sure in the next few years.....

Marc--

If you can hold on until summer, we're planning to cruise our TomCat to Ottawa for Canada Day celebrations.

Hi Marc,

We may live in the same province, but we're still a long way apart! We've had our Dory on the north shore of Superior for 7 years now. Our nearest dealer is in Superior Wi ( Northwest Outlet).

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Hey Paul / Borealis

Yeah..it's quite the land mass...drove from Ottawa to Lake Huron last summer...how many trees can you possibly count ?!

From your C-D exposure, how is the community around here ? Big dream is to cruise from Ottawa, up the Rideau Canal, to Kingston and down the St. Laurence to Montreal and come back on the Ottawa River. 2 weeks of fun then the Trent-Severn Waterways...then...

I have only ever seen 3 C-Dory's in Canada, and they were all U.S. boats up for vacations. I don't think there are many Canadian owners, but I see a few postings from time to time..... especially on the west coast.

Your cruise plans sound very ambitious. It's a fine little vessel for 2 people. Quiet, nimble, efficient and cozy. Oh yea.... you're also the talk of the dock where ever you go. People seem to like their lines as much as we did.

Take up the offer to check one out. I think you'll be impressed.

Best of luck,
Paul

Hi Paul,

Well that is exactely what caught my eye. I was just perusing a Boat Trader mag when I flipped a page and said "WHOA" look at this !. Got on the web and checked-out C-Dory. So much the better that they manufacture small boats (16'); all with gorgeous lines. The folks on the west coast sure have a good thing going !

We have cruised the trip you are considering. You can read some aspects of that cruise at: http://www.geocities.com/bill_fiero/legran.htm

It is dubbed Le Grand Circuit Nautique and is as fine a cruise as you can find anywhere -- don't be jealous of those nor'west coasters -- you have a perfect gem in your backyard, and the C-Dory is the perfect boat for that cruise.

In the meantime, stay tuned to the Brat site -- the New England Brats have great Gathering/cruises not that far from your digs and it would be well worth your time to hop across the line for a holiday trip and visit with them -- share their experiences, take a ride on their boats, and enjoy a fine time together.

Good luck -- part of the fun is in the looking and dreaming -- keep it up!

El and Bill,

Thanks for this.

This circle is even better. I never knew of that route. Probably best after the shorter one though; having gained cruising experience. My only beef as El mentioned.. "folks are out of the water'....St.Laurence (around the 1000 Islands) is peppered with boaters, most of them high speed rockets with little consideration for others. That is why we prefer slow speed coast / shoreline hugging.

Hi Paul,

I've a son in Parry Sound and have driven through Terrace Bay several times now. The next time I come down I'll be towing the 'Lucky 7's'. My grandson love's to fish and what a better way to spend some time.

Paul, for a really good look at C-Dorydom (C-Dory's and Their owners, the factory and everything C-Dory) come on out to the left side, and go to the Seattle Boat Show Weekend with the C-Dorys. Stay at the Hawthorne Suites, (you'll never get as good a bargin there any other time) and be very careful. It'll get into your blood, you'll get hooked, (It's the lines) and you will meet the nicest people :hug :love :hug2 .

Hi Glen,

That's a long old haul to drag a Dory from BC to the Georgian Bay, but I'm sure it's all worthwhile for some fishing time with your grandson! Feel free to look me up if you ever get the chance!

Hi Harvey,
Speaking of a long way to drag a Dory...... Seattle???? I think I may just have to read about your get-togethers for now, but who knows, maybe someday. Thanks for the invitation.

Paul

Paul, You are welcome, and anytime you get west of Seattle, we'd be happy to make sure you get a close look at a C-Dory.
