Can I tow a 25

Did you know ? If you used whale oil in your transmission it would never wear out...... regular transmission fluid (oil) turn to shellac when it burns and that is what coats the disks and plates and makes your transmission slip... whale oil will not do that...

Just add a heavy duty transmission cooler and that will help keep er cool..
Change transmission oil/fluid every 50k miles.

whale oil as in from the blubber of whales? Surely you jest!?
 
Whale oil was banned as a transmission fluid back the 1970's due to the Endangered species act. Signed into law by President Richard Nixon. Good luck finding that at Pep Boys. The Japanese might sell it as the are still whaling for scientific purposes :roll:

Whale oil is going to be mighty hard to get. However there are some very good synthetic transmission oils--and the heavy duty Allison transmissions use an Allison specific fluid--with up to 150,000 mile change interval, but 50,000 filter change interval. Check with your transmission specialist, about any specific transmission.

Certainly the cheapest way to care for the transmission, is to change the fluid frequently. Also if you have an older Ford Transmission, there are ways a good transmission shop can up grade that transmission, including a better torque converter.

In this specific case, one could buy the C Dory 25, have electric over hydraulic brakes on the trailer. Use a weight distributing hitch, and see how the F 150 tows the boat for local area. If you can get down to the Pensacola area, I'll give you a WD hitch which I used on my 25.
