Camper Back

Good Offer Bill....but after :beer or :beer :beer :beer , that is why we have/own pilot house boats. Love Savanna.... Mrs. Wilkens Boarding house (sp?) will for sure set you up for a great afternoon nap after the boarind house blowout lunch.

When on the water, I have the bimini up 90% of the time, for protection against both sun and rain.

When parked, I put on the (slanted) cockpit cover. It keeps out both rainwater and debris.

I wouldn't be without either of them.

(To date, I have not used the camper back and sides.)

Bill,

My in-laws live on St. Helena Island, just north of you outside Beaufort. We go down about 2-3 times a year and the next time we bring Valkyrie, I'll send you a PM and maybe we can get together.

Jeff,

PM? I have no idea what you are talking about.

If this means that you sent a PM, you better send another. I haven't received a PM in about five days from anyone.

Party? Did someone say party? Send details!

Jeff,

Okay, I just reread the whole thread and if you are referring to my mentioning that I'll send a PM to Bill, I just meant when we are headed that way.

However, what if I post a general message that we are heading to SC (whenever that is) and all of those interested can try to get together for an impromptu gathering?

I like it!

Best regards,

Nick

Well....next time I see my boat it should be sporting the new camper package. I can't wait! :D I'll make sure to put some stickers I mean pictures on here when I get it.

Bill, did you get that boat wet yet?

jeff,
glad to hear you sent the C-PEARL to the canvas shop, stickers or not  . did i hear you say something about a burger filing system? you will absolutely love the camper package. B and i cruised last week-end both saturday and sunday all day long with the mr. heater running in the cockpit. a wallas is coming, i just don't have a warm, fuzzy feeling about sleeping with the propane and i don't like the "rain" in the cabin. i know, brats, this a matter of great discussion but it is how i feel. great to hear about the canvas jeff :D

Hey Bill,
The day the site got Nuked I had made a post here to show you my factory camper package and the installation made by Wefings.

Also wanted to know if you got that boat wet yet? Some nice weather coming up. Here are the pics. I hope this helps you decide on factory or after market.

I think these pictures were taken right after the install. Hopefully the wrinkles are a temporary thing and will do like the english say "ride up with wear".

C-Pearl, thats beautifull! No, I havent even run the boat yet, but getting close. Damn job keeps getting in the way. I havent really looked at the camper back yet. Maybe this weekend. I wish I had known of your set up. That looks better for warm weather. I think mine just has the windows with no screen.

A couple of comments about camper backs/cockpit bimin i's. When buying a top, one must weigh the cost (perhaps cheaper if it is mass produced) vs the custom features you might want. I would suggest that a person buying a Bimini/camper back, look at the variious albums and then write the people whose design they like the best for suggestions. We used a local canvas maker--had four bids and discussed our design with each. We didn't choose the most expensive or cheapest. We do allow potential customers for the person we used to look at our Camper back.

We have a three bow top--with upright supports in the back and front so it is free standing. It does not have to be attatched to the back of the cabin. We have a pannel between the aft of the cabin top (awning rail) to the foreward edge of the bimini top which can be removed and thus allows free air flow in the summer, also allows one to enter the boat from a high dock by zipping the front pannel partly open so that that you can slip down off the dock thru this opening.

We designed the top, so it will fold back beyond the side railings and be supported on aft supports when fishing or traveling. Folding foreward will work well also. On the CD 22 we had the base supports which would slide back and forth on a track inside the gunnel, and allow the top to fold down all of the way and be along the gunnels and inboard of the motor for travel.

We did not put large windows on the side for privacy at the dock, and all clear vinyl aft for vision. We elected to make our screens to zip in to replace the side curtain and aft curtain--and then put the solid or vinly curtains below--this will allow full ventillation with the screens in place.

We also used vinly awning railings on the side of the cabin house, with short Sunbrella and zipper, as we did on the top, which seals the top and sides easily.
