Baxter, thank you for the heads up. Sunday morning after Friday Harbor we plan on heading up to Nanaimo and then onto Sullivan Bay via Prideaux Haven. We will now avoid this deep water test range named Whiskey Golf. The range is active Mondays through Fridays, sometimes Saturdays, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30p.m.

Gary and Colleen on DayBreak.

Gary, the Whiskey Golf site "can be active" M-F, but is not always active those days. It is also called "Winchelsea". A call on VHF 16 for the Canada Coast Guard will get you the correct place to call, and will give active times I believe.

Baxter,

Have a great time, and enjoy the islands.

If you listen to the Canadian Weather Radio they also tell you when the Whiskey Golf Range will be active, but it would probably still be best to call the Coast Guard anyways if you are crossing that area.

Thank you guys!

We will monitor the Winchelsea Range Control VHF channel 10, Canadian continuous marine broadcast on the weather channels and make the call to the Coast Guard (VHF 83A) to see if the range is active for the day.

This will be our first crossing of the Strait of Georgia. We will also watch the weather to keep the winds and current in the same direction as we make this crossing.

Thanks again for your advice and help in this matter.

Gary and Colleen
