Calling all Ranger owners

Could some of you Ranger guys, tell this site is what is happening with your boat, where you are using it. Any up grades or ideas that you have done, or are going to do.

This site will die if we don't promote it. The C-Dory guys post more on this site than Ranger guys. :cry With the R-21 and R-25 's there must be hundreds out there by now, is there not? What hull numbers are we up to on both of these boats? Anyone know?

You Brats will get sick of my posts.

I thank you all for the input on my questions and problems. They have been a great help. I know I will get help and suggestions in the future if we can keep this site alive. :thup

I just took delivery of Hull 67 on an R25. A newer boat with the new Cummins engine (higher hull number) was at Wefings when I left Florida with my boat. Weather here in Tennessee will delay any more use of boat until April.

I'm looking at an R25 here in RockHall..The deal is fair, and depends on me selling my C Dory 22, which has been a great boat for me..Just lookingfor more room...and i like the "slow" speeds..
It is well equipped, and has the 110 YanmarFWC The hull number is #52

We took delivery of hull #46 in Sept. So far, the tug has exceeded our expectations. Heading off to Port Townsend this weekend in the PNW. There is a small window of nice weather to take advantage of. No modifications yet, but we are getting ready to treat the inside teak now that the weather is warming up. For those of us who don't like the boat pounding in choppy water, the tug is a good compromise, for us, between speed and comfort.

Nah...plenty of us find these posts of interest. Keep em' coming.

Still, I've been working on a Ranger specific owner's site for a while now, but the progress has been slow given other priorities. Ranger Jeff has been involved, and we're hoping to launch it sometime in March.

You'll see a prominent announcement when it's ready.

I just listed all the C-Dory models and the numbers that I would estimate there are of each type of hull, which has to be a very rough estimate for me, and came out with something like 2350, but this figure could run anywhere from 2000-3000, as I don't know the number of some models.

The ranger tugs are working on about hull number 70 on the 25, and we'll have to estimate the number of 21's. If we guess that there are 200 of the 21's (optimistic?), thee would still be about a ten to one ratio of C-Dories to Ranger Tugs.

Based on those approximations, the C-Dory owners and contributors on this site will always far outnumber those of the Ranger Tugs.

Additionally, I don't think we have to worry about this site dying, it's the best boating site on the internet hands down!

Joe. (Preparing for incoming fire on precise numbers a-la' the Venture fuel data fiasco!) :thup :teeth

The posts were right about the great site this is. It about has me hooked on checking the computer each day. (not bad for a technically challenged person) Ha!
I am a little confused on the site posting on hull identification numbers. The invoice with my tug from Ranger shows the HIN# to be FMLR2123F506. I am not sure but think that this was the lastor one of the very last old style 21's built. Shortly after delivery I saw an ad on the new 21EC. As I ordered mine not a word was mentioned about a change coming but I was given a nice discount on the purchase. I know the 23 can't be the hull numberbecause all discussion at purchase stated that they had built around 40/year for a year or so. anyone with an idea on this?
I love the boat but am still working on how to add accomodations that they added on the 21EC. So far a Hardtop has been added over the cockpit (shown in album) and an extension for the pilothouse is on the drawing boards. Plans may moving the helm station into the extension with a portipotti curtain aft of the helm station. The current pilothouse will be galley and a much easier v-berth area to use.
There appears no way to address the speed issue as the EC did by a slight hull design change but I can address the accomidations to be able to live out the speed issue. With the cost of fuel I sure can't knock around 18 MPG.
Hopefully the Ranger lends itself to modifications as the c-dory does.

The Ranger site is what I was referring to. Not the C-Brats. That top is spinning really well. The Rangers only site will go a few days with no posts. If there are no new posts, everyone will skip going to it and it could die on the vine through natural attrition. We just had some good interesting posts, that is terrific. Keep em coming.

Hawks Channel was rough today so we run around on the gulf side. If that durn wind would lay down.

Couple of comments and a question. I don't own a C-Dory and likely never will. Instead, I own a Canadian version from Campion. We intend to own a Ranger in 5-6 years, using it to embark on the Great Loop.

That being said, I'd be sad if Ranger owners left this site. This is the best small boating forum on the net, bar none. Polite, humorous folks who love to help out. Plus....there are no intrusive moderators. "Just be nice" suits this independent soul just fine.

Question for Capt. D. You live 24/7 on your Ranger....right? How comfortable are you for the long haul? I'm writing this while comfortably sitting on my 22 footer, which I love for the weekends. I cant imagine living on it year round. The Fieros are amazing folks. Me and the missus require an enclosed head, large V-berth, and full galley.

greg, what type of boat do you have and whats the lay out like . There is a campion dealer here in town but I have not had a lot of time to look at them

Geez, Capt'n D - take it easy on us!

Spent all day today out on patrol - ran from Cultus Bay (Whidbey) to Kingston (found a sunken 25 ft boat), then to Edmonds, to Mukilteo, to Everett for fuel (still ~ 2.5 mpg at 11 kts), to Clinton and home before the tide dropped to low for our channel. Nice to have the US Government pay for fuel.

Great day, calm seas - almost got to 50 degrees (water still a chilly 46. Dry suit all day!

I'll bet you've caught up on hours - I just passed 490 on the Yanmar 110. Covered 3500 miles so far.

I can get 14 kts with wot - I saw the numbers on the Cummins at the Seattle Boat show- 16 kt cruising, over 20 tops and 3.5+ mpg. I tried to talk Jeff into a retro fit, but he says I have to wear mine out first....

Two birds with one stone on this reply.

Here is an article about my boat, showing a picture and a unique Coast Guard Auxilary event. (Island Ranger....my boat is being recertified on Monday. By April's end, I hope to be crewed, then coxwain by Fall. I look forward to the day when the gov. pays my fuel too).

http://www.teamcoastguard.org/2006/May/ ... eCrash.htm

The boat is a Victoria 627 which has been renamed as an Explorer. The model number escapes me but if you go to Campion boat's web site, you'll see it along with nice pictures and interactive video of the interior. It's similar to a C-Dory 22' except it doesn't have a fixed dinette. The table sits nicely in my storage shed. I prefer a lounging configuration instead.

I do not believe this boat is superior to a C-Dory. Just different....and well made, like a C-Dory. I like cruising 25 mph and getting 4 mpg. On the Columbia and Willamette River, I'm often covering ground I've seen many times, so speed is appreciated. When we're cruising the Sound, like we do in our 30' Carver, I prefer to go 7 knots and take it in. I'll hopefully have the same perspective when we Loop with a Ranger.

Only when on a trip, the Bahamas, 3 to 6 months. On the 22 ft C-Dory- about three weeks was all Dee will put up with. Then we got a cabin at Nippers. The 25 Ranger would be no problem for six months. V- birth is big enough and comfortable with the new memory foam.

We have a 11.6 slide in camper in Florida so we switch off . We are use to tight quarters. We have a home in Montana where we spend our summers.

Wow, Mac , Your excused, your a busy guy. Keep that up and you will wear it out and you can get the new Cummins with the money you save on fuel.
