Calling all CD 16 owners

Hi All:
I just purchased a 1992 CD 16.
While we 16 owners share the name of our larger
cruising brothers, the ability to customize our boats is
limited by the size of the vessel.
I would like to hear from fellow 16 owners on what they have done to
personalize their boats.
Photos would be a plus.
I notice that on the newer 16's, the "berth" has been opened on the port side
of the boat, while mine has center hatch access. I'd like to know if anyone has expanded
access to the cabin area without removing the bulkhead completely.
Anyway, would like to stimulate a discussion between 16 owners.
Thanks,
Bill

Bill,

My suggestion would be to look under "Our C-Dorys" Set it to "Sort by model", and then look at the albums that are shown. I'm sure the owners would be happy to answer any questions you might have about their modifications. :wink Jack

The larger off-center berth opening is a Cruiser versus the centered opening of an Angler. If you go to the factory website they have line drawings of the two models. Cruiser has a longer berth (at least in the newer boats)

Only thing I have done so far is put a couple wood brackets on the underside of the berth on the passenger side so I can put a couple sterilite bins over there and slide them in and keep them up off the floor and secure. I put my foodstuffs and utensils, pans, foil, etc. in them. Still have to move the battery to the port side under the seat so I can put another 12 gallon tank where the battery is. The brackets are alder strips that form an "L" edge for the edges of the containers to rest and slide on. This is the year that I will improve the bilge pump also. Maybe a different pick-up fixture and an anti-backflow device to actually drain the last inch of water and slime out when necessary. That is one of those little but nagging issues. Also have to do a more permanent repair on the rubrails.

HERE is my album for my 16. I have done a few things. I boat a lot by myself so I made a table from the cuddy cabin cover. The port seat goes in the forward area. I am thinking seriously of cutting out the port portion of the bulkhead and open it up to the cuddy cabin.

Great, you may remember I was proposing the same thing but Patty nixed it - so, we'll see how your job goes and then renew the discussion!

I was looking at my bulkhead and I think, if I were to cut it out, :smileo it would also be worth while to raise the deck in the cabin about 6" to gain more floor space. :wink
