cabin door seperating

So went out to check on the boat after being parked for the majority of fall and winter. Noticed the bottom of door looks to have swelled and started delaminating going up the door towards the door knob. Does anyone know if these wood doors repair well or should I start looking for a replacement? It looks like I could fill with some epoxy and c clamp it back but I think this is only a patch job and the water damage has been done. Plus it’s a 89 model. Any ideas for replacements would be appreciated.

Temporary is best to inject with epoxy, as you noted, clamp--probably put wood batons on each side, and then multiple clamps on the wood, to avoid marking the surface. Be sure and seal all of the edges of the door. It may last some time.

Some of the newer boats have "Starboard" doors They tend to warp to some degree, but are impervious to water damage.
 
I have 89 and I am sure the door has been replaced or glued and repainted white. I will try and investigate and take some pics...
 
Building an new door is not that hard. I just used good marine ply and sealed it really well with 8 coats of paint on the out side and a stain on the inside. I removed the old window and used it on the new door. I am not a wood worker and used basic tools. If I can do it anyone can.
 
M y 05 has a Starboard door. It's not perfect, but I think it beats the full length glass door. I guess that could be a personal choice, but I don't think my starboard has warped .... yet. :wink:

Exactly what StarCraft Tom said....It would be just as easy to build a new door than mess with all that repair epoxy c-clamp mess. Buy one sheet of 5/8 Marine Plywood & 1 piece of Oak screen molding for the edge, use old door as template, cut, sand, and stain and you have a better than new factory C-Dory door from 1989.
 
I think I am going to go the new door out of marine plywood idea. as the separation is pretty bad, any ideas on where to locate marine grade plywood in Port Angeles? my concern with a new door was getting the door knob and lock to line up correct but shouldn't be too hard.
 
Edensaw lumber in Port Townsend has lots of quality marine grade plywood. If you have not been there it is worth the trip just to see the candy store of exotic wood they have on hand. You probably will not find any in Port Angeles that is worth using. Google their website and check it out.

I don’t know about PA, but Edensaw in PT is a very good source. Marine Ply in metric thicknesses. 6, 9, 12, 18 etc.
