C-Dory Window Question

I have a 2003 22' Cruiser, a part of the aluminum frame on the starboard side window is missing, it is a piece about 13 1/4 long powder coated, It is on the vertical end of the sliding window, complete opposite end of the window lock. Windows are Diamond Sea Glaze, any information would be helpful on how to replace the missing piece

Of courser the "easy" way is to contact Diamond Sea Glaze, and see if they can supply the part.

The other way, is to make one yourself. It will be aluminum. You can get soft aluminum at any Home Depot or Lowes. It comes in both bar stock or angle. Don't remember the dimensions, but the good news, is that you have the port one to use as a guide. There will be a "fur" wiper strip. That is available in various catalogues. (also from Diamond Sea Glaze if you wish).

After fabricating the piece, you can use JB weld to put it in place. One member posted that there is a Rustoleum paint which is very close. I have also found that "Hatteras White" is very close to matching the color. Paint after your have put the piece in--there will be some sanding of the frame, and perhaps you may want to notch the frame to get better stability of the new piece. Sand down the J B weld, prime and paint.

Given that you are painting aluminum I also suggest using a single stage self etching primer such as Marhyde normally carried by auto parts store
 
I have to say that the Diamond Seaglaze people are really great to deal with. Give them a call and a credit card number. The part will arrive at your door.
 
I've got a 24 inch long section, with the synthetic fabric seal strip. You'd have to cut it to length (mitre saw does a nice job), and paint to your preference. Yours for the shipping. Send me a pm if you want it.
 
Diamond Sea Glaze was my first call, nice people, but could not put a part # together for the 2003 C-Dory? Thanks all for the info.

I just luckily discovered that same vertical piece was about to fall off on driver's side window. It consists of the aluminum piece which holds the furry weatherstripping, and also a black rubber insert which fits into the aluminum piece and contacts around the rear edge of that window.

I see Bob recommends JB weld to hold it in. However I don't see any evidence of any kind of glue or sealant on those pieces. Is the rubber piece meant to hold everything together by fitting tight, or maybe the installer forgot adhesive? Would the adhesive go on both sides of the rubber to hold it all together?? (well now it seems silly I am not calling Diamond, but I wonder if someone knows how these are put together...thanks.)
 
I had that same piece pop off on mine because I pulled on it to open the window from outside the boat. I didn't see any evidence of adhesive either and looking at it felt that it must just be the tight fit with the rubber piece that holds it on. I cleaned the rubber piece, the aluminum, and the glass really well and then lined it up and pressed it back on. It fits tight and I haven't had any trouble since. I have now learned not to pull on it. I think over time dirt gets in there and it doesn't stick to the glass as well. I keep a close eye on both of them now, I don't want to loose them on the road or in the lake.
