C-Dory Sightings

A CD 22 cruising the Seattle waterfront today. No name, hull # WN 0523 NR. Stopped in front of the aquarium and the wife went out on the bow to clean the windshield. Where was her PFD? Warm and dry in a locker somewhere?

While visiting Fernandina, Florida we were tied up on the end of a T dock when a C-Dory center consul hull was going in and out. It is a 22 hull with no top, just the bottom hull to which a center consul has been added to the center of the boat. He apparently is commercial taking people for rides as he went by several times but we only talked twice. He had a CD 22 in Sitka, Alaska years ago and apparently loves them. The boat was the same accent color as my hull, green, and had the C-Dory decal. Good looking boat. I asked him how many they made and he thought less than 10.

About a week ago, there was a green stripe, 22 Cruiser set up for fishing heading towards Boise, northwest of Mt Home. I recognized the D-Dory profile over the pickup cab roof-line and got all excited. I hadn't seen a C-Dory in over a month. It was slowly creeping up behind me on the freeway (I-84) so I slowed slightly for the driver to come up and pass. I needed a better look, and as he started to slide by I started waving frantically, alternating with a thumbs up :thup :thup and pointing (where is Thataway's emoticon), and all of a sudden he panicked, slowed drastically and went into some search and discovery mode "Do I really want to pass this fanatic? or what is wrong with my rig?" Well I waved him up and by, smiling under a full face helmet, actually grinning from ear to ear, all to no avail. "C-Doc" passed me and went on down the freeway, the sticker in the window indicating he was a participant in the Rural Family Doc program, and had probably not ever encountered a case of C-Dory euphoria at this point in his young medical career.

Sorry Doc, but you made my day, sorry if I scared you into next years growth. ( I had been on the road, on the bike for a couple of weeks and away from my boat for over a month.)

Saw Miss Mirth heading north on I-5 east of Edmonds at 7:20 p.m. yesterday, the 24th. She sure looked good. Hopefully her skipper was rolling her toward a launch site to begin many days aboard.

I didn't see Beachnut, the boat, but I did see her owner at the R2AK Goodies stand in the harbor in Victoria on Sunday, Race start day. We did get to chat a bit and at some point will get to do some buddy boating in the area.

Sighted the C-Dory "Sumi" on a trailer (no tow vehicle attached) parked in downtown Campbell River, B.C. on July 8.

Looking back, the vehicle I was driving could easily have towed her. Perhaps she was waiting for some kind soul to come along and put her on the ocean, where she belonged.

I'll be back in C. River next week. If she's still there....

Not just a C-Dory sighting but even better, a C-Brat sighting

Hey Brock (CatMan)
looky here who I caught looking over the precious Bambina a week ago Sunday.

Holy cow, thanks for your vigilance, Roger. I trust you called the police on that guy. I really can't have people living in Bambina till I find her a happy new home.

Well, again not a C-Dory but a couple of C-BRATS. I met George Hone of Kerri On, and Blake E of Sea Fury and clam chowder fame at Port Harvey the other night. Both have moved from C-Dorys on to bigger more complicated vessels, with more space and longer water lines, but both are great guys and we had a good visit and run up Johnstone in pretty flat calm conditions together.

Sighted the 22-foot C-Dory "Retriever" on the hard at Costco in Courtenay, B.C.

Two hours later, still on its trailer, it was at the Campbell River ferry terminal, about to board for Quadra Island.

Spent a rainy weekend in Port Browning on Pender Island. Was great. Nothing like hearing the rain all tucked in. Last one before pulling out for the winter and found the new week or so new owners of Brevity at the other end of the empty docks. Ooops forget the names but a very great couple. They were just cruising the Gulf Islands before trailering her back to California and points beyond so am sure many will cross their paths and enjoy their company

Today while leaving Anchorage we spotted a real pretty and shiny catamaran (BLACK CAT) along the Old Seward Hyw. south of town. It was mostly black in color and beautiful.

Also......my boat (HIGH TIDE) is in Anchorage at a boat repair shop trying to find the source of the water coming out of a screw hole in the transom. State Farm Ins is sending a marine surveyor to Anchorage from Sitka to inspect it.
The shop owner thinks it is the drain plug and housing not being properly installed. It may have been whacked and knocked loose running out in the water where there are many logs floating around.
We will see.

Spotted of Rat Island near the Indian Island channel, a nice shiny Burgundy 22 Cruiser with a happy as a clam pair of owners, Tim and Shelly on their nearly new and still un-labeled "C-Monkey". This was their third weekend out, out of 3 weekends and they have only had the boat a couple of months. Looking forward to seeing them on the water some more around the Port Townsend cut and beyond.
