C-Dory Sightings

Meet Dave and Helen on Sailor-D in Fossil Bay, Sucia Island. They are from Chimanus on Vancover Island. Very nice folks who are out for a month, lucky them.
On Saturday we ran into Peter and Karn on C-Dancer at Blakely Marina. We had to leave early Sunday but they were on their way to Rosario for Sunday Brunch.

Do people with 16's always get abuse on this thread?

No, just Catman! :wink

Sorry - it is a cute little boat and I guess a cute little boat needs a cute little dingy (spelling intentional). Now Bambina has Brock... AND a dinghy.

Robbi-

Did you get a good look at the people aboard the Far West II?

That boat was up for sale starting about two months ago.

Would you recognize John and / or Edna Dracon if you saw them?

My understanding was that he was having some health problems leading to the sale offering. Joe.

Hello,

We are the new owners of the Far West II. We bought her from John Dracon earlier this spring. John reluctantly had to sell because of heart problems. As of June he and his wife are moving to Montana to be closer to family.

The Far West II will now hail out of Olympia, Washington and is moored at the Boston Harbor Marina for the summer.

We are new to boating and have appreciated all the helpful and timely advice that we've garnered from your web site.

Thanks,

Kay and Don Hansen

Kay and Don-

Welcome aboard!

We hope you enjoy your new boat. John put a lot of time into customizing the Far West II. Keep us posted on your boating adventures!

Let us know if you hear further details about John and Edna's return to Montana.

This site is kind of like big extended family. We really do care about our family of friends.

Joe.

Was surprised to see not one but two c-dorys at Winchester Bay/Salmon Harbor Oregon when I was down there the other day. :o One was a 16 footer and looks to be an angler. It was red at one time but now it is a somewhat faded red. The other one is a 22 footer and was eating at a pizza/sub sandwich shop in Lakeside and was talking to the owner of the shop and told him I had been out on Ten mile lake that afternoon :D with my new C-Dory ( well new to me) . He told me the 22 footer at Winchester bay belongs to his brother-in-law  I also seen someplace here a C-Dory was taken to Coos-Bay Oregon which is just 10 miles away from me. Didn't get the names on the boats at Winchester bay as I would have walk out to where they were moored and the weather was not to nice that day  .
Will get down there again in a week or two and will try to see if there are names on them

Ps. Went back and I guess it was Depoe Bay I was thinking of. Well guess I was only off a few miles and on land that is not to bad at sea is something else :embarrased

Don...

That was me you saw Sat afternoon (about 3:30 ?). Sometimes if the weather isn't all that good we sneak in between Lemon Is. and Tri-Club Is., anchor and listen to the stereo and have a few cool ones. I didn't notice your boat......you must have been over close to the Washington side.

We were down to the Coos Bay area last month and I took photos of the C-Dory's at Winchester Bay (photos are in our album). The faded red 16 CD is the MARLAZE. The 22 CD is the OSPREY. Also took a photo of the 22 CD at Charleston but it's on a different camera (with film) so will be a while before I get that developed.

Ruth and Joe, I didn't like the news about Inati Bay. And while I'm not going to grill the messenger, I'm sending less than lovely thoughts BYC's way. I've played in that bay since 1978, and privatization sounds odious. That's a stinker!

Kay and Don, welcome to the CD Support Group. It's a multi-step program wherein C-People courageously admit they're powerless to resist both their vessel's seductive attraction, and our need to share the addiction with fellow Brats.

robl132, pay no attention to those mordacious meanies behind the curtain. We have almost as much right to be here as they do, so let's act like it.

Chuck,

We were near the channel of the Columbia just west of Government Is around 3:30. We almost missed you too. We were probably only 200 ft apart. I think we may have seen you about a month or so ago in the North Portland Harbor on Tomahawk Is? We spotted a 22 at the north side (south side of the island) at a boat house and waved. Was it you and is that where you moor your boat?

Don

Don,

We keep our boat at Tomahawk Island Marina. I'm sure it's the one you saw when you were in the North Portland harbor. You might recognize it from the pics in our album. Do you keep your 25 on the water? We're usually out once a week...more often in the summer. I think the reason I missed you Saturday was that I was watching my wake. I had taken the boat to Sportcraft for maintenance the previous week and hit something in the Willamette (hate that river!) and had changed props.
Hope to see you on the river again.

Chuck

Dee and I went through the North Portland Harbor yesterday evening and saw a green 22 cruiser ahead of us that docked at the Island Cafe. We think it was the same boat we saw about 5 weeks ago just a few hundred feet downstream.

On our way towards Portland on I-84, I think I saw an old C-Dory visible from the freeway. It was sitting in a yard on its trailer, I think it was an older CD-22 with the Aqua trim. It was hard to get a good look at it because we were zooming by at 70 mph. Has anyone seen this before? It doesn't seem to be in service at this time. It was near exit 35 on the north side of the freeway.

This last Saturday I was up at Cornet Bay fishing for Lings in Deception Pass with the Gamefishin.com crowd. Around 1:00 or so there were 2 CD-22s that came in the bay and played around for a bit and then headed back towards La Conner. I don't blame them! There were some nasty waters on the other side of Deception with some 6-8 foot waves on occassion under the bridge! Twas quite a ride in the sled I'll tell ya!

I sure needed Dusty out there to show me how to find the Lings. I didn't touch anything all day :(

I also got to chat with Dave on Sailor-D as he waited for the waters to calm so he could head to Friday Harbor. I think he said they were going to be out for another couple weeks. Lucky them!

Kay and Don, Good to have you aboard. I missed your post from June 6th, and just now read it. I am sure we will see each other again this summer as I often cruise down your way. Thanks for the wave a few weeks ago near the entrance to Hammersley Inlet. I was on the beach and my boat was anchored out. Robbi

Saw a CD22 entering the Channel Islands Harbor the samw time as I did today. It had blue trim and WA numbers. Talked with the new owner for a few minutes as I pulled up next to him. His name is Doug and he bought the boat last year in WA. and brought it down.

I helped Steve and Cathy Hantzas launch their new 25' (named "Catleen") today at Belle Haven Marina in Alexandria. They live nearby and had been eyeing my Otter for a while before they took the plunge. A beautiful boat. They will be keeping her in DC at Washington Marina.

Joe and I, together with a friend, started out from Bellevue at 7 AM yesterday. Got through the locks without any wait and then proceeded south past the Tacoma Narrows bridge. Calm, 72, and sunny! Got our limit of 18 crabs.
On the way back we were passed by a mirror image green striped 22' cruiser headed south at about Des Moines. We exchanged friendly waves. We were then pleasantly surprised at the locks when, after squeezing in 3 or four 30+ foot boats the locktender's loudspeaker called "bring that little C-Dory on in" All together another fine C-Dory day!

Marty - I hope you got all the way to Area 13, South Puget Sound, where the season is open...it is still closed in Area 11, Tacoma / Vashon Island...and the limit is 5 per person, not 6, this year in both areas...Here is the link to the WDFW regs.
