C-Dory Sightings

Robbi,
Thanks for the photo and I trust you saw me give you a friendly wave. We had a smooth trip to Gig harbor and after a quick and late lunch got back South of the narrows prior to the higher outgoing rip. Everything is working well though one of the rollers on the wallis lid came unscrewed. May need to get out the lock tight if that becomes a chronic issue. It was a great day to be alive. :smiled

So were you fishing? Do any good?

See you out there.
Steven

No, not fishing. Just enjoying an afternoon on the water. Eagle Island seems to be a C-Dory magnet. In a few hours I saw a 16 cruiser, 16 angler, and two 22 cruisers and mine makes 5.

Look forward to seeing you on the water again soon. Robbi

So what is it about C-Dory's that our boats were the only power boats we saw on a clear, beautiful February day like we had yesterday? We saw two boats just outside Everett, one of which was Sea Coaster (BaseCampAnne). She waved and we waved back.

As mentioned above, what a gorgeous day to be out on the water. Caryn and I took a little afternoon cruise from Everett to Edmonds, just to get the feeling of being out on the water again. It seemed like ages since we last went out, well at least 6 months. It was the first time we took C-Dancer out since the 200 hour maintenance and winterizing. Love the Suzuki, it started right up with no problems from the fogging oil, one puff of smoke, the engine ran great, very strong and smooth. The water was like glass in most places and without trying to sound like a TV commercial, it felt great to be alive!! :wink

Maybe we'll have a decent spring and get a few more chances to take her out.

While on shore at the dive event, I spied a C-Dory 22 go by:

Then I saw him heading for my boat:

And there she is, right next door, appears to be nicely setup.

Even got a name, don't know if a member, couldn't find in our list.

There are a few unnamed C-Dorys depicted here. I think C-Dorys deserve names. Now, Brand X, that's another story. But we all make our boats our own so that no two are exactly alike, and by golly, that individuality needs naming!

Monday (?) saw a C-Ranger 21, looking band new and being towed towards Hontoon Island on the St. Johns. Alas, it turned in to the street as I turned out and I was so suprised to see my first one that I didn't catch the name as it flashed past. Are you a C-Brat? Only a doctor's appointment kept me from circling around to tell you "Hi".

Saw a blue 22' named Last Resort with a Florida registry parked at the Oak Harbor Marina storage area. Looked like a late 90's early 00' model, half glass cabin door, stainless roof rails. Maybe a Navy guy out here from Pensacola.

I guess this is sort of a contorted C-Dory sighting. We are on vacation, and on Sunday as we were driving through Eastpoint Florida, I spied Welfings and their C-Dory stock. Unfortunately they were closed so we couldn't stop in and say "hey". They do have some good looking boats there.

Not sure who it was but yesterday (3/17) I saw a 16' green CD being towed by a red pickup truck pull onto Mercer street just W of West Marine. They were directly across from my lab window. No name on the boat.

Was out at Zittles Marina in the south sound and spotted "Scout" a 22 which was getting some hightech fish attracting bottom paint. It will be interesting to see how that works. Nice looking boat being made ready for the 08 season.

Well not a C Dory or a Ranger but the genuine Livingston Dinghy truck
with a Livingston on the back of the flat bed heading down the freeway
in Tacoma Wa. Hey I was impressed anyway! Bob Heselberg Eatonville Wa

On the way home from Port Townsend with SleepyC in tow, I met C-Lou east bound on 101 around on the southside of Discovery Bay. Blinked and waved but I think I sneaked by.

I was admiring the Olive Oyl at Lake Billy Chinook when out hunting for Bull Trout last weekend. I don't see them listed as C-Brats members, but it was such a beautiful boat I thought I'd share the pics.

We are making our way from Tavernier, FL to Broad Creek, NC. We'll load MollyJ up there and head back to SD. Sightings so far on the way have been, Miss Dee(being towed by Peanut Island :( ), YKnot at anchor in Stuart(sorry you have to leave for awhile), one cruising by the Vero Beach mooring field, Comfy Dory at Cocoa(thanks for saying "hi") and Hunky Dory at Hogan's Marina-Turner Creek. We'll keep our eyes open for more along the way.

Hi Andy and Molly,
It was great to see another C-Dory on the water in our area. Sorry I couldn't stay a little longer, but we had just launched the Comfy Dory at Lee Winner Park at the western end of the bridge and I was taking her across the River to our house on Merritt Island. We still had to load her up for a sunrise departure the next morning for an overnight at Sebastian Inlet. As you remember, it was a little windy and I didn't want to shut the motor off so close to the power line poles and guy wires and I couldn't hear very well with the engine running. Next time you are going to be down this way, give us a shout and we can get together for sundowners.
Did you bring the Molly Jo down from North Carolina? How did you like Tavernier? We have not had the Comfy Dory down in the Keys yet, but we have a friend on Key Largo and have fished the area with him on several occasions. We had some other friends that used to own and operate the little cafe (Cafe Las Brisas at that time) right by the bridge, so we were in that area quite a bit.

Hope to see you again...Tad and Toby

Not a C-Dory but about as close as you can get. I saw this Cape Cruiser in Fort George Inlet from about a mile away heading toward me. The hull lines look identical to a C-Dory. Spoke with the owner for a few minutes and he told me he previously had a 22 and 25 C-Dory's. Said he liked the 22 but had a lot of trouble with the 25 (hull #7). He was real happy with the Cape Cruiser. I asked if he weren't concerned about possible warranty issues and he said they had $100,000 set aside to handle any issues that might come up but felt he would never have a problem with it as it was really well constructed. He also said they had a few more of these at Crystal River Marine.DSC_0049_edited-1.jpg

Thanks for the note Tad. No, we trailered MollyJ from South Dakota to Tavernier. Friends took our pickup and trailer to NC for us the first of April so it is waiting for us there. We were making the trip north and stopped to visit friends who winter by Cocoa.
We'll be back in the Keys next year, hopefully. Keep in touch

So you guys were the CD that went by and turned around and followed us a bit. We had lost the drain plug to the heat exchanger and the engine over heated. Twenty mile out in the Gulf Stream. Maybe a good thing because the raw water intake at the engine fell off when Yanmar service was checking it over. The hose clamp had been tightened down three inches from the end of the hose. We probably would have sunk if it would have come off out in the stream.
It was embarrassing to have a CD see us in such a condition. I would have stop to say hi, but at $225 an hour, that would not be wise. $1200 for the tow. Sea Tow is well worth the money. It is either that or twin engines.
