C-Dory Sales-Dealers

Actually, there are two boat for sale forums, one for members, another for dealers.

Look at the bottom of the "Forums" list, then the C-Dory Marketplace subcategory, found by clicking on that word (Forums) at top of this or any page.

I don't know if this is the reason or not, but I think as a dealer, I'd have a hard time competing price-wise with all the owner's ads in this limited price market and economy.

Dealers have overhead costs that would (I believe) make it very hard for them to match the must sell prices at which some owners are offering boats for sale.

Also, many of the dealers do have paid-for ads running at the top right-hand corner of the site pages, which offer both new and used boats for sale when clicked on for further information.

Tough times, for sure!

From my experience , they usually dont produce sales. They are pretty fleeting in the forum and we dont get a column on the side of the page where they remain visible.
But you cant beat the price !
I use Yachtword and Boattrader.com
There seem to be less used boats changing hands right now .
A realistically priced boat will go quickly wherever you advertise it . Seen lots that are not based on market value , but more based on emotional attachment .

Well, it's my opinion, which granted doesn't mean a heck of a lot, that a column for C-Dorys for sale by dealers should follow or be included in the current column displayed. I, like many C-Brats. have both bought and sold C-Dorys from and through dealers and privately as well. Also, the dealers that have C-Dorys for sale are for the most part certainly good contributors to the knowledge and information base of the C-Brat site. Just check the "Lets keep track of Good and Bad Customer Service" thread for the high regard in which they are held by C-Brats.

I agree with Marty, provided the dealers are active supporters of the C-Brat site.

That sounds like it makes sense to me too. Seems fair too, but it would be up to Mike and Bill to decide and do. Kind of a payback for participation. Didn't realize the dealers were excluded before.

I too think the dealers should have a more visible location for us to" click on". I have been on the C-Brat site a long time looking for a boat for sale & just found the Dealers on their "hidden forum" last week! Guess I'm not tech savy. Roy

I'm all for helping the dealers out. The factory seems inconsistent with responses to questions and subjects on this site. And maybe thats better to send all business the dealers way. The problem I see is that the folks that run the site would lose revenue from the ads they place which would not be necessary if they could run ads for free. Does that mean previous dealers could not post free ads? How about Marinaut a cousin of the C-Dory? It's not my call but I think the dealers that have remained stocking dealerships should be favored.

I thought about it potentially reducing paid ads to the site as well. But... maybe it wouldn't do that if it were limited to the same type of ads as we can place in the Classifieds? That is, a single ad for a single used boat (in the classifieds and thus on the home page), and not ad(s) for the dealership in general or for new boats in stock. I don't know - just thinking about loud.

Another option might simply be to have a sentence at the top of the private-owner classifieds sub-forum mentioning that there is also a sub-forum where dealers can post boats for sale (and perhaps a link). That way shoppers would see that there is another place to look, and yet it would reserve the home page area for private sellers.

Interesting discussion here. Thanks.

It has us thinking a little and being appreciative of Wefings and Sportcraft who have had paid banners running up top all along.

As Sunbeam stated if the "free ads" were limited to single ads for a single boat - used or maybe even new C-Dorys or Marinauts - then it would seem fair to allow those dealers who ALSO maintain paid banners to participate in this column feature.

That would both maintain the paid ad stream to the C-Brats website and further grant the participating dealers another associated benefit from advertising on the website.

Great idea Marty!

Hope to see a bunch of you at the rapidly upcoming 2013 SBS!

Take care,
Dan, Tanya, and Hannah on C-Renity

If the dealer has a paid banner at the top of the site, they should be able to list all their new/used C D's, boats in a very visible spot, it would help ALL involved. Roy

I'm not at all against dealer sales being highlighted on the home page, yet I also think they're quite visible now. As the original question asked, why aren't dealers using this sub-forum more now?

If a dealer posts a boat for sale here now (in this existing sub-forum with the current guidelines), that post pops up in "View posts since last visit," which seems to get them quite a number of views. I know that when I was C-Dory shopping, I hounded that button! I wanted to see *anything* for sale.

The last four specific ads* placed in this sub-forum by dealers were in July, October, November and November and had over 4,000 combined views. That seems pretty popular.

*Not counting one for a boat show

At any rate, I'm completely not against dealer ads from this sub-forum being highlighted on the home page - it seems like a good idea to me - but it seems that there just aren't very many dealer-submitted ads here for some reason.

(Side thought: I don't typically go to the home page, so I never knew that any boats were highlighted there. I have my bookmark set for the forum.)

We post used boats when we get them on the lot. There have not been a lot of used C-Dory's changing hands lately (although we did just sell a 2005 25 Cruiser).

The factory may have an issue with new boats being posted with prices, I don't know what the current dealer agreement is or even if there is one at all.

As Marc noted, we use yachtworld and boat trader (and spend a fair sum each month for the priviledge) and have had good results.

My feeling is that I'll post a boat when we get it, and note any price adjustments, but beyond that don't want to intrude too much or abuse the priveledge.

True! Of course on the East Coast we only have two....and being located on the "right coast" I'd like to see us offer as much support as we can for the future good of the C-Dory line...

So Pete, have you ordered your TomCat yet?

Just looked at your old posts. Guess you're after a 25? Almost as good but don't do it w/o riding a TC255!

Charlie

Very good guess Charlie! I actually have a 25 on order, but the delivery date is unknown at this point - possibly May.

As a catamaran sailor for many decades, I really do appreciate the advantages of multihulls and the TC. Because I'll be towing with a Sequoia, I went with the lighter boat....

Hope to catch up with you and other local Brats later in the season!

Not to barge in, but I'm just curious about your Sequioa and towing a C-dory 25. Reason being, I had looked at a few Sequoias for towing my 22, and while they were generous for that, I didn't remember them being that generous.

I looked up the 2013 Sequoia, and - at least what I could see in the specs on Edmunds.com - it's rated for 7400#. I wonder if that is adequate for a 25? (Of course a lot depends on whether you plan to go two miles to the ramp on flat ground a few times, vs. cross country hauls.) And I don't mean to start another endless towing thread. (Plus maybe you already have it totally figured out and I'm asking needlessly.) But it would be a shame if you ordered a boat specifically so you could tow it with a vehicle (that maybe you haven't bought yet?) and then it turned out to be too heavy.

I think I've read that a 25, loaded for cruising, comes in around 8500# all up (?) (I could be misremembering, and maybe you don't intend to trailer yours loaded to the gills, either)

However, congrats on your soon-to-be new boat :thup
