C-Dory Sales-Dealers

Quite right about the 7400# towing rating for the Sequoia. This rating does comply with the new SAE J2807 standard however, and as such is more realistic and conservative than the ratings claimed by some competitors. I intend to keep the boat as light as I can with a single engine and an aluminum trailer, so it should be pretty close anyways.

With the 5.7L engine, power is not an issue. A WD hitch is required by the manual and will be used. The trailer will be equipped with 4-wheel discs / electric over hydraulic with a proportional Tekonsha controller and Carlisle 1600 psi output pump, so stopping shouldn't be a problem either.

At least that's the theory....... :)

Wish me luck!

Peter,

Sounds like you have it in hand :thup I only mentioned it as, if I remember correctly, I think C-Dory (at least used to) publicize an all up weight of something like 6,900# for the 25. At least one buyer had to sell the vehicle they had planned to tow with and buy a different one.

But it sounds like you are going in with full knowledge of boat and vehicle.

Exciting times! :beer

PS: I was looking at older Sequoias, but wow, even they were comfortable and luxurious! (I ended up going with a camper van for "living" comfort and longer wheelbase, but oh those Sequoias were nice!)

Even with our C Dory rigged for long trips, on the road it was about 7,000 with the trailer (low fuel, minimal water, but enough we could "camp" in it.) We were towing with an Excursion diesel-(10,000 capacity), but our trailer was on the light side.

He should be fine with the brakes and a weight distribution hitch (which we used and I really made the boat trailer better, even with a heavier tow vehicle.
