C-Dory in Long Island Sound

Am considering buying C-Dory 22' after 20 years of twin-engine inboards and deep V hull construction. What kind of adjustment period should I expect. I'll be boating in Long Island Sound.

You will have to pick your days. You will have to go much slower. Boating will cost you considerably less as a 22' C-Dory is pretty fuel efficient. Everyone will tell you how cute your boat is.

Nothing wrong with saving money on fuel, nor the 'cute boat' part. I'm used to picking my days, as previous boat (the one I just sold!) had too much draft to allow me to go out when the tide wasn't just right. I'm looking forward to an easier experience.

Your shallower draft with the new boat will open up many fine places not available to others.

There are so many coves and small harbors in the sound -- anchoring in those when the winds are right, will be a delight.

When the conditions are fine, circumnavigating Long Island can be a delight. Coming in and through New York Harbor and the cruising on the outside of LI with the protection lf the barrier islands is marvelous. Have a good depth sounder for the shallows, monitor the radio for traffic, and have a great time.

Up the Connecticut River is another great cruise to consider. Enjoy that wonderful cruising ground. Cheers El and Bill
