C dory for sale

I am considering buying a 1983 c dory 16 foot with Suzuki 50 hp outboard. $5500 including trailer. I havent seen it yet but supposed to run well and be in good condition.
I know very little about c dories. Does this sound like a fair price?
 
The price is fine. Take somebody who knows boats, motors and trailers with you when you go to look at it. If necessary pay a surveyor, but do it fast. If that boat is seaworthy it will sell fast.
 
One thing to be aware is a 16 from 83 is a completely different design than the later models (1985? - Present). The hull is not as deep (no deck moulding- cabin is mounted directly on a rolled hull), the bottom is flatter, overall maybe a bit narrower, and the windows are likely plexiglass. None of this is bad, just different than the later models so you can't compare prices as directly. If the Suzuki is a 4 stroke that might be a good buy, if it's a 2 stroke and in fair to poor condition it might be overpriced. Condition is everything. I've seen classic 16s like this sell for less although they were only made for a handful of years in th early days so you don't see as many. Good luck, I hope it turns out to be a keeper!
