C-dory 22/carb honda 90 prop question

I have a C-dory 22 with a carbed honda 90 and can get 5200 max rpm on flat water with the outboard trimmed up half way. Does that sound like the appropriate max rpm for my boat/engine combo.

We have the same Honda on our 1990 22 cruiser. Put a new 3 bladed aluminum 15" prop. Medium loaded, we get 5900 rpm and about 30 mph on flat calm water. Same prop works good heavily loaded too.

What pitch prop are you running? Maybe a 17"?
 
What is the max rpm?

Off hand I thought it was 6,300 and at 5800 produced 90hp.

Recommendations that I read, state first to adjust the OB height to optimal position then check the rpms again and re prop if needed

Other factors are you running the boat light or heavy most of the time? then decide on a 3 or 4 blade prop

Searching on prop will yield many previous discussions or Thataway previous postings b/c Dr Austin and many others have discussed many times

Lots of variables. If the boat is light, at sea level, and the engine is trimmed for max speed, it is in the range, but on the low side.

Let us know the prop pitch and diameter, material, and if the boat is light etc.

I would like to see 5800 which is what we get on our 90 hp carb Honda.
 
Seems that my max rpm is on the low side. I'll have to check the pitch on the prop next time I get to the boat. The boat is light and at sea level. Thanks for the replies.
 
I would shoot for max RPM at top speed when selecting your prop. Mine will run a little quicker than max RPM on flat water, but I rarely travel over 25 mph so it is of no concern. Besides, I want to be able to carry lots of folks, gear, fish, and everything else that ends up in the boat. Boats are not exactly economical, but I think you are losing some efficiency with that prop - probably perfect for a 115.....The prop shop will help you out.
