I want to thank Don and others for bringing to our attention the issue of the back-end of the driver’s seat on C-Dory 16 boats hitting the throttle assembly. In my case, it is possible that the back end of the chair damaged the lanyard engine kill switch. My dealer, Old Lyme Marina, arrived at a very clever solution. They removed the old seat bolt, and replaced it with a longer bolt that extended approximately 1 ½” below the seat, which stops the chair from swiveling excessively into the throttle assembly. They used a rubber hose to encase the outside of the bolt, which prevents damage to the fiberglass surface. This is working fantastically, and I recommend this to anyone with a CD-16 to install some sort of stop.

Pictures of seat stop are located in my Photos Folder “C-Nile”

Thanks!

Mine does the exact same thing. I have been thinking about moving the seat a 1/4 inch to the center so the seat will swivel. We fish a lot and need to be looking back at the poles. Don't know why we need to watch the poles, we don't catch that many fish, just a habit.

I just think of it as a no-cost safety option- the engine turns off when I swivel to leave the seat!

Marty,
While that may be true, in my case -- it may have caused us to be stranded in the middle of the water due to a damaged kill switch. Installing a stop is a cheap way to prevent damage to the throttle assembly as well as to make the boating experience more pleasurable.

Rich- You are right , of course. I haven't yet done anything to correct the seat hitting the key or kill switch, but I will. And when I do, your pictures will be my guide. Thanks.
