C-Dory 16 cruiser vs Arima 16 sea explorer

They are both good boats. I doubt if you'd go wrong with either. The C-Dory will give you more shelter at the helm and can realistically be used for an overnighter. I think it is probably a little more seaworthy as well. Looking at the two (and I have recently) the C-Dory just seems a little more boat. People on this site who have 16's love them.
 
The Alma looks very nice, but for our part the added protection of an enclosed cockpit and top to protect us from whatever mother nature throws at us on any given day, we will stick with the pilot house design concept and our preference continues to be any size C-Dory.

Can't speak for the Arima, but I can say I enjoy the cockpit of my Cruiser. Especially out where you live the winds can get quite chilly even on a nice day. Its nice to have cover from that. Mine's moored at Jensens.

I had an Arima Sea Ranger 17, which is a bit bigger boat in several ways than the Arima you're looking at. What I would say is that there is probably less getting pushed around in the wind when on the Arima, but that comes at the expense of poorer economy. The deeper vee of the Arima versus the flat CDory requires more HP. I never felt like there was enough room on the Arima. That goes for storage, and for fishing.

I also felt that my Arima was not built quite to the same standards as my CDory. It isn't significant, but the CDory seems better made to me.

We also had a 17 Arima which was an excellent fishing & crabbing platform and would handle seas like a typical deep V, ie. good, until forced to slow down :-)

It was adequately built but not as solid as our CD 22 and had no-where near as "liveable". I can only imagine that the 16 (Arima) would be even less so.

So I would say if you want to cruise more than fish go CD.
Apart from that, look at the fun group you would belong to 8)
