C-Dory 14 What's it worth

I haven't been on this site for a while, but have been around since C-Brats was created. We bought one of the first second generation 25's from E.Q. Harbor Service 20 years ago this month. It was our first powerboat. We named her Bess-C and took her all over the Northwest and attended many C-Brat functions for 6 years. In 2009 we sold her and bought a bigger boat that we named Bessie.

In the years since we sold Bess-C I've acquired a couple of unique C-Dory's. One is a 1992 C-Dory 14 and the other is a 1993 C-Dory 17 center console. Tom from Starcraft Tom helped me find the 14 and I purchased it from Master Marine in Mount Vernon, WA in 2011.

I'm in my 70's now, so instead of buying more boats, I'm starting to sell them. I sold my drift boat last year and now I'm going to sell one of my C-Dory's. I love the 14 and there's nothing like it, but the 17 is more versatile, so I'm going to put the 14 up for sale.

The reason for all of this preamble is that I have no idea what price to put on the 14. I haven't seen a comparable one sell for years so I'm coming to you guys for advice. The market the last couple of years has been crazy. People have been listing 16's for what I consider very high prices, but I don't know if they are actually selling for those prices.

I repowered the boat in 2013 with a Tohatsu 30 hp. It has a good trailer, the motor has very low miles and the boat is in great shape. What do you all think about a sell price?

I don't know what it is worth but it sure has me thinking! I have always liked the little guys. It would be a good lake boat.

Man its good to see you are still up straight and breathing. Miss boating with you both. Give me a call. I do not know what you should ask but its such a great little boat and would make a great lake or bay day boat or a dinghy on a big boat as you used it for a while. I would ask 5 k for it. what motor is on it now? I mean what 14fter out there has a cabin??? just does not compare to anything else.

Thanks Tom,

Yes, the little boat is almost perfect. Someone stole the Honda motor off of it in 2013, so I replaced it with the 30 Tohatsu. They also did some fiberglass damage that I had professionally repaired. At rhat time I added swivel seats and Scotty downrigger mounts to make it easy for two people to fish.

A person doesn't get much for 10k these days. I'd probably list it for a bit higher than that. Is $1,000 a foot too much?

Seems a bit low. Depends on the condition, engine, trailer, etc. though.

Lyle, it's sure nice to hear from you! I look for Bessie whenever I'm at Skyline. I think it's almost been 14 years since you and Shelly dingied out to 16' Bambina in Reid Harbor to chat for a spell.

I'm glad you asked this group our opinion, in effect giving Brats first dibs. I think Tyboo should buy it--if he hasn't already! Someone's going to get a rare little gem. He just has be prepared to be stopped for questions everywhere he goes, and learn to accept the word "darling".)

I agree that that a thousand a foot isn't at all unreasonable. I'd error on the higher side and work down if you have to. Heck, I'm temped to buy it myself, but that's just greed talking.
I hope to see you and Shelly out cruising this year!

Chrome your instincts are right on. For a few years we used our bigger boat as a base camp tied to the floating dock in Bowman Bay and went around the corner to fish the Deception Pass hole with the 14.

Good to hear from you too Catman. Yes, everybody notices and comments on this little boat. I even had one guy stand and argue with me that it was really a 16, because C-Dory never made a 14.

Maybe greed is what made me keep her. I've known for a couple of years that I should let her go to someone that would use and enjoy her. But then I would go into the shed at Anacortes, take the cover off and decide it wasn't time yet. At this point in my life I'm trying cultivate the attitude that no matter how much I love something, if I'm not using it I should let it go to someone else that will.

Thank you all for giving me a price range that you think might be reasonable for this little boat. It's stored about 4 hours away from me in the shed at Skyline Marina in Anacortes. I need to get over there, take the cover off and look the boat over. I don't think it needs much more than a wash down, but may need to be buffed and waxed.

Once it's ready to go I'll put it up for sale on this site first. I have fresh pictures that were taken the last time it was in the water. It's been years since I put pictures in the album, but if I can figure it out I'll stick a couple of newer pictures there.

It'll be a couple of weeks before I can get to Anacortes, so 2-3 weeks before it goes into the for sale listing.

I purchased her last fall after I fell in love while dropping off an outboard for maintenance at EQ harbor marine.
She is my new crabbing and fishing workhorse, if you're ever around holmes harbor you might see her out and about.
She is run almost every day during the season. She's going to be painted during the off season and probably get a fish finder upgrade.
She'll do 21 knots in the right conditions!
You took outstanding care of her, thank you!
