C-Brats hacked?

Hey Folks:

From the list of latest posts it would appear that C-Brats has had a major phishing attack. :crook

Be careful. We're from South Carolina and if you've been following the news South Carolina has had a major hack attack on the Dept. of Revenue that is going to cost us millions. Millions of names and personal info was stolen. :sad

Not exactly "hacked". Anyone can register and post. Never seen one in Russian before tho. The Nerds will get rid of them quickly.

I thought we were supposed to like phishing?

Just a bunch of spammer accounts, nothing we haven't seen before. They've just hit in larger than normal numbers - likely with a common entity behind all of them.

We've killed off 50+ accounts that registered since last night, blasting all of their spam posts in the process.

Hopefully, it's a one time thing - but I'll be installing a geolocation block. That's a fancy way of saying, if your IP address resides in certain countries - you can't access the server.

If that fails, we'll move to an "approve new accounts before posting" registration model. TyBoo and I are not crazy about this option, as it requires more work on our end and keeps legitimate folks from posting until we activate their accounts...but it's the only relatively foolproof method of dealing with determined spammers.

Hey,

Y'all done good! It's too bad a few can make so much work for others. I wouldn't hesitate to guess it came from the young foriegn female posting that popped up not too long ago.

Good job!!

Bill, as I said on the other post, great job. If you get to the "approve accounts" stage, I'm sure some of us (including myself) would be glad to assist you and Mike with that chore if it can be set up. I'm here every day at all hours.

Thanks for the work you do.

Hey thanks again. (Just read your post on the country thing) and then just say the one based from Egypt (Pertinence JNL) That makes no sense. Sorry you guys have to deal with that junk.

I'm probably the only legitimate 'brat that this has affected, but being located in Uzbekistan, I find that I'm now "geolocated" to the wrong side of the tracks. It isn't too big of a deal, since I can still access the 'brats from work (which goes through a U.S. server), but from home, не повезло.

Aiviq - if you have a fixed IP address at home, I bet Bill could (if he has the time), add yours to an allowed list.

Email sent, but if you see this from work first - you should be good to go from home.
