For the past two months I've been tossing an idea around in my mind and here it is............

Do any of you C-Brats have an interest in participating in providing C-Dory rides for children attending the "Burned Children Recovery Foundation" Camp Phoenix that takes place 8/18 to 8/25/07?

Mind you, I'm still in the thought process of this idea, but this evening I spoke with the director of the camp and mentioned the thought with her. If we have enough interest in this it may become a possibility.

Currently, various community groups in Washington State are assisting in this program. Last year a kayaking group provided an outing for the attendees to Hope Island. It sounds as if they launched at Cornet Bay.

My thoughts are that we muster up a flotilla of volunteer C-Dorys to meet at Cornet Bay at some time during their camp week and provide rides for the attendees. (Apparently they have approx. 50 attendees).

For an insight into what the organization is all about you may go to www.burnedchildrenrecovery.org Once there click on Camp Phoenix 2006 and you can view some of the pictures taken last year.

Other participants in Camp Phoenix are the Seattle Seahawks, the Seahawk Sea Gals, Washington State Patrol, Washington State Council of Fire Fighters Burn Foundation, the U.S. Army - Ft. Lewis, Skagit Raceway, Two different Harley Owners Groups, several local fire departments, Island Outfitters (Kayaking), Meridian Yachts, a number of Rotary Clubs and assistance in travel by representatives of several airlines (Horizon Airlines, Frontier Airlines, Alaska Airlines and Angel Flight).

Dave,

That sounds like a great thing to participate in! I'd be happy to help in any way that I can. I can do more than take kids for a ride, I can put 'em on fish and/or help them pull in crabs (depending of course on area and seasons).

Lori and I would love to participate, assuming our schedules mesh.

Absolutely. Patti and I would love to participate. We will have to think about child size life vests. Maybe some group would be willing to loan us some for that event??

Absolutely, we need to be thinking of all angles/needs on this project.
In viewing the pix of the Kayaking group on the 2006 Phoenix Camp, the kids are wearing lifejackets that perhaps came from the group sponsoring the kayaking event.
This evening, when I spoke with the director, I inquired about insurance and she said that they carry insurance.

I would encourage anyone considering participating in this project to read the "Founders Story" on their web site.

Dave, My P.S.A. group does a fishing for the blind every year, which is a lot of fun. Your idea would be a lot of fun. We should have a theme of some sort that would justify a boat ride. Crabbing for the day or looking for whales in the san juans?? or both. hand out disposable digital cameras so they can take there own photos? Let keep kicking this around.

For life jackets , several local parks have life jackets for kids for free. Thats for day use free. maybe we can borrow a few from the parks department????
