C-Brat Burgee: redux

I'm still fine tuning the one I'm working on. Should be done with modifications in the next few days, then if no others are forthcoming - we can toss up a poll.

Burgee update.

I've not been contacted by anyone else with designs, and Dave's (oldgrowth) is the only other one added to the album so far. Since it's very similar to mine other than background color, I'm inclined to move forward with the one I've been working on.

The latest/final iteration is below, based on vendor feedback and comments made here. Two minor changes from the last one: The boat is facing forward (per 416 Rigby's suggestion) and the web site URL is removed. More on that in a bit.

I've been in touch with four vendors, and have narrowed it down to two. Both of them indicated adding the web site address to the header band was expensive; including it pushes the burgee well over $30. It requires two pieces of header material instead of one, both of which need to be embroidered. Basically, it adds about $6-8 per burgee - for something you can only see when standing right in front of it.

So - unless there's an onslaught of objections to the design above, I'll get to work on getting the production sample designed and delivered, and figuring out how to handle all the orders. More details on that will be posted in the orders thread - I'll update the initial post there to make it easy to find.

Thanks for keeping this moving forward Bill. Your efforts to take this on are greatly appreciated as I'm the one who initiated the thread without thinking someone else would be willing to take this on.

As I'm sure the first of many opinions, I don't mind the web address not being included, especially if it saves some money. As for the direction of the boat, from an aesthetic point of view, I prefer the boat turned the other way, as originally designed. I guess I understand Rick's point but it seems backwards to me. JMHO

But in the end, it really doesn't matter to me. Whatever the group decides is fine with me.

HI Bill,

Looks good to me. I'm OK with or without the URL. The extra $$ would be OK for it but like you say, you would have to be able to be close enough to touch to be able to read it.

I'm still confused by the red side windows, but that's probably just me. It really represents the cute boat. Great job.

Psssst.....Peter......I agree. Don't tell my buddy Rick, but I think I'm gonna switch it back.

He'll never notice.

If/Then it will, (if you have it mounted on the bow rail so you can see it when you are driving), look like it is coming toward you and running tail upwind.

I'll fly it either way but I like it the way it is ( Rick's design ).

Just glad to have one (2) when you get it done.

Just think of that 40Kt following wind and then having to come about and head into it. right about then i seriously doubt if any of us will be too concerned about which way the logo on the burgee is pointed.

GEE, I still have the old logo on the side of the cabin on my CD25. I guess I may have to change it.... No, it is historical, after all.

My design was not intended to be considered as a final design to be voted on. I submitted it to steer the design towards the C-Brat logo we already have and your design is the one I would vote for, but like Peter, I like the boat facing the other way.

Bill-

Nice job!

It sounds like you have a great design and about as much consensus as we're ever going to get, so I'd recommend you go with the design, finish the details, and set up the production as soon as you can get it done, allowing anyone who wants to back out to send you a PM (or however you want to handle that detail.) Oh, and don't forget to collect the $$$ somewhere along the way!

Joe. :teeth :thup

With the little boat pointed toward the mast, when the pennant is at rest, it will look like the little boat is going up the wave, like the little boat that can.

Just a thought, The other way will put it going down

OK - boat heading forward it is. Nope, no poll - if I've learned anything from watching this issue develop over the years, it's that making executive decisions will actually get the job done. Taking into account user input, of course...don't want that to sound too much like "my way or the highway"...

So, a couple updates and thoughts on the ordering process.

First up - the size is going to be 12"x18", not 10"x15" as mentioned originally. It has been determined in speaking with several designers, that 10"x15" is really more for dinghy sized boats, not to mention too much detail will be lost.

Second - price. Burgees will be $30/each, with a flat rate of $6 shipping no matter how many are purchased. This is not my actual cost - when all is said and done, it's a little more than $2 per burgee in my pocket. I'm not doing this to make money, but I do want a small buffer to cover anything unexpected - I'm just not in a position to go in the hole on this deal.

Third - payment arrangements. 50% down will be required from the vendor prior to ordering, and given this is coming out of my pocket - I need some assurance orders will be fulfilled. Of equal importance, I'd prefer to have something easy and streamlined when it comes to sending out the actual burgees...with near 100 of them going out, having something uniform in place that is easily queried and tracked would really help me out.

My preference is, to use a payment service and have everyone pay 100% up front. Yes, I only need 50% up front prior to ordering...but it will add significantly to my efforts if I have to follow up with folks for final payment. As a site admin, I have access to everyone's email address who expressed interest, so I can email bulk invoices easily.

While a payment service will take a cut of the final price compared to sending me checks, it provides a valuable service to both of us. For me, it provides an electronic record in one place of who has paid, along with their shipping addresses that can easily be sent to USPS for label/shipment processing. For you, it allows you to dispute the charge if/when I take all your money and put it towards a TomCat. If you are really opposed or are unable to use a credit/debit card, we can work something out - but I'd like to keep those to a minimum.

While there might be cheaper options, I'd plan on shipping everything via USPS Priority flat rate packages. Again, for simplicity - shipping charges will be uniform resulting in identical delivered prices for everyone, and tracking will be provided. With one exception - my guess is, we've got some Canucks in the list who will want burgees. Y'all know who you are, and also know shipping costs more across the border. Actual shipping cost for you folks, or if you're coming to the SBS in January - we can probably arrange to hand them over in person to save you $$.

If the above sounds like a plan, it bears repeating the expected timeline:

- Approximately 2-3 weeks for me to get the sample

- Assuming approval, another 4-5 weeks for delivery of the bulk order

- Upon arrival to me, I'll try and get everything shipped out within a week

So, conservatively - it may be as long as 9-10 weeks after you order before receiving your burgee. That's probably in time for Christmas. Perhaps shorter, but no promises.

Let's get going on this. If you have feedback on the above, or want to remove your name from the list - please do so ASAP. I'd like to order the sample next Monday, 10/21.

At $36 delivered for the current/final design, I'll upgrade my 'probably' to a 'yes'. Let me know when you get the payment details worked out.

And, thanks for all the effort you put in on this.
