Byrdman's CD18

Interesting last year. Just after the post prior to this one, was contacted by the gentleman who bought Jabez from me a few years back...and we contracted on C-Byrd. Well...it has been an interesting year for us both and C-Byrd is now in Chattanooga TN area with her new owner Clif.

Clif is an owner/lurker who does not type much...but reads often. I am glad it was raining like a cow getting relief on a hot rock....cause that for sure covered my tears as C-Byrd rolled up the driveway. I am truly glad Clif has her and truly appreciates that he now has hull # 14 of 14 of the no longer produced Classic C-Dory 18' Angler. A great boat....with much love put into her during restoration perior.

So... today is the first day in many years I have as an individual been C-Dory-less.... but fear not....we still have them in the family, I have recruited a few other C-Dory owners and C-Brats in the area...and we gather and have fun often.

To the Toland Family for building one hell of a great 18' boat!!

Here ..Here!

Thanks Ric & Donna ! I still need to get with yall on that neat table you did on Foggy Dew... I love that and want to do something similar on another one of my boats.

Hope to see yall again soon sometime, and, hope your trip to the Gulf was nice.

hello byrdman,
hope i can clear up the mystery regarding who sold mr. alm his original 50hp johnson. i was recently sitting with my great grandfather, in the local corner bar. we hadn't been drinking for no more than 7 or 8 hours when this conversation came up. i asked my great grandfather if he knew anything about this mystery and he told me he did indeed. in fact he stated, he was the one who sold the 50hp johnson. so, after one year you now have the information your were seeking.
as always. best regards

Thanks Patrick for the update. I have never hung around in a local pub like that (duck all...here comes another bolt of lightening.... ), but if I had, that would have been a great day to be there. I need to cruise up that way and try it with you and your Great Grand Father. I never had the opportunity to meet any of mine, due to them spending too many days just like that. :beer :beer Here Here to hard working Irish :thup :smiled

I have a friend up in OH that has just retired and we have a need for a road trip very soon. This may be just what we needed.

byrdman,
we'll be splashing "misty sea" in the ohio river june 1st or there about. if you can postpone your northernly trip until then, we'll "make way" on the beautiful muddy ohio river, where every outing is an adventure!

Or...just got off the phone with my friend in Beaver Creek/Dayton OH area....and I may drive up there for Thurs/Friday nights and back here on Saturday..... You have inspired me to go to OH... but will be enroute without a boat. Tell me the name and address or town of the Pub. I may be able to convience my friend that is what we need to do.

byrdman,
i spoke with my great grandfather, he's 135 years old, doesn't really say a whole lot but can drink with the best of them, at any rate, he's interested in joining us and i didn't have the heart to say no. just a word to the wise, he gets a little frisky around any of the girls under 80, so help me keep an eye on him and all he be good.
looking forward to seeing you thursday. so that i will be clean of heart i am at this minute beginning my abstinence of food, beverage and sex.
wait just a minute, i'm almost 60 and better rethink this abstinence, as of this minute, no more food or beverage.
best regards
pat

Thanks to all for the PMs and emails.

See your Thursday Pat and sorry neither your great grandfather or Miss Linda is going to be able to make it. I guess you will just have to represent your family.

Yall go get out on your boats with a friend.

Byrdman

byrdman,
sorry linda can't make it, she has about another 6 or 7 months and should be paroled or at least make an early release for good behavior.
on a positive note, my doctor called and told me two more penicillin shots should clear up my swine flu, by thurdays. nothing to worry about, looking forward to seeing you. drive safe.

OK I have now bought this boat back from Clif. Will begin over with some more modifications. Will cut-n-paste some other post about this...on other current links. Bringing this hull back to the Pacific North West in July this year for some summer/fall boating/fishing/shrimping/crabbing and travels.
Damn, I miss ol Norm and our many calls and messages.

Fought her out of the barn and now for storage clean up and modifications to ready her for craving, shrimping and salmon fishing.
I feel like I should be able to deduct John at John’s as a dependent.
Thankfully some of the add ones I kept from rigging out ALOYSIOUS but I only Damon fished her so all the shrimping and crabbing gear was needed.
Out her for another week prior to heading back south east for a couple months working other projects
Busy year.

Have been asked to find this link where I had purchased and rebuilt the last 18' Angler made. I will more than likely be selling this hull once back up in the Puget Sound waters area in April time frame. Just too many fun times and laughs with Momma Byrd on board and ....with some help...found a nice CD-22Angler that may be a bit more size appropriate for my lifestyle and size.

Patrick, I ran across a CD 18 at Boat Haven in Port Townsend last fall. Had me a bit confused at first. Wasn't a 16 and wasn't an 19. I had forgotten about the real 18's.

Hope we can cross wakes while you are in the area.

Good Day Harvey! Have several balls up in the air down here in the SE this winter. Seems, short task turn to long task, appointments set in stone ….the move. So, no way I can make a Feb trip out to WA. Going tp be end of Mar or early Apr arrival this year. On the 18Angler, it is much larger working area than the 16 but not as much as the 22s. Never fished/shrimped/crabbed out of the back of a 19 so I can not compare... The 18 is a cool boat. Spring may present different emotional feelings once back on board. May just keep both boats. One for NW and the other for SE. Man does not live with one boat alone.

Putting C-Byrd up for sale in the Puget Sound waters area. This link followed the restoration of the last 18 Angler built by the Toland family in 1985. Not many of them are around. A bit more work to be done as always on a restoration. I was not happy with the stern fittings (2 plugs and a previous raw water hook up) so I removed them, drilled them out, epoxied them back in, caulked em in good. Still have not touched up bottom paint and fittings after replacement. Basically with current age and health I only need on C-Dory, and my new to me 22 Angler will allow me to complete the Great Loop, the inside Alaska Passage trip and day to day boating needs a bit more comfortable to extended cruising and living on board than the 18 would allow. Cheers to great time and great memories on our C-Dory boats.

C-Byrd sold and living in GA now... Ill miss her but an excited new owner who has done a marvelous job restoring a Camaro of the late 60s vintage.
I feel better about this as this special boat needs to be loved and used...not wrapped up and stored for 6 months of the year. Cheers to all the great time Momma Byrd and I had on this very special limited hull. A wicked cool boat. Buying her back did not get Mom back... and Mom as well as me would want her to belong to an owner who can and will enjoy her 12 months of the year.
The new owner has followed this boat and the refurbish and travel since Ive owner her....both times.

Wow... so much has changed since this link was started.
A few of us no longer here. A few of us got lucky and rebounded a few health gigs but are still able to get out and enjoy our boats.

Any one ever owned the same boat 3 times?
Conversation starter.
This old hull number 14 or 14 of the C-Dory 18 Angler is a very classic and classy C-Dory. She ran the waters so efficiently. With her totally flat bottom the chop often played into her journeys.
