Greetings Fellow Brats,

I am having a heck of a time finding a robust rail mount bow flag staff for my 22 Cruiser. West Marine has one, but the bend in the rail at the bow makes it unusable. Less sturdy ones fit, but dont last a season.

Maybe its just not meant to be, but thought i would throw it out here and see if you all had any suggestions.

I bought my swiveler from the Great Loop people. It fit very nicely on my bow rail. All parts included. A little pricey at about $100.

Pluto, try THESE FOLKS. We've ordered a lot of SS fittings from them and they seem to hold up pretty good. Don't pay too much attention to their deadlines, the deadlines change every day.

One trick for a clamp on a railing, is to put the 3M non skid self adhesive material on the railing, and then clamp the lower part around the rail. Not sure why the better WM fitting will not work, but perhaps it can be mofidied, with some grinding, and then putting the non side on the railing or the inside of the clamp.

Bob has a nice simple solution that works.

One other simple approach:
I bought the less expensive SS flag mount from WM and cut a piece of old bicycle inner tube to place under the clamp. It has been there since 10/2004 without a problem and it does not leave any 'gooppy tape residue'.

Just a cheap idea  .

I have used emory paper(coarse) under the fittings on rail mounting. It holds very well and leaves no "tracks" when the clamp is removed.
