Bow Eye on a TC 255

Captains Cat

The new owner of Captain's Cat says that there are only two small washers as backing for the bow eye. We are up in Maine now and I cannot look at THATAWAY. What do others have??

That's what mine had. It now has a 10" x 10" Marine plywood backing glassed in place and a 3" x 4" steel plate over that to keep the nuts and lock washers from digging into the wood.

Roger, I'm surprised! All TC 255 owners should do that. It could potentially be towed with that eye, although I suppose the deck cleats would be better. It still should have backing on it. It gets strain when winching the boat onto the trailer if you have to move it much. I'll do it to Thataway when we get back from Maine in June.

One of the problems is that the glass in this part of the wing deck is not all that thick (not as thick as most monohulls where the laminates overlap in the bow).

If I had to tow a Tom Cat, I would make a bridle, and secure it to the Armstrong engine bracket--tow with that.
