Boating less due to fuel prices?

Fuel at Dangling Rope Marina, far back of beyond in Lake Powell, was $4.01 last week. BUT, as Fred says, it sure didn't stop us from boating and having a great time (maybe we'll just not eat as often -- need to keep the priorities right).

I must say I am very happy with the hammerhead, 2 full days fishing, running out 3 miles and north 10 to 12 bucking a 15 to 20 knot winds and trolling for 6 or 7 hours each day I cringed when I went to fuel her and WOW............18 Gallons for 2 days fishin.

Those twin honda 40's are woth there weight in gold :D

I am a very happy camper :smiled

heres one for the oil companies :moon

I try to explain to folks all the time (well Kara my wife anyway that boat gas is not the same as spending on other things because ...... it's like .. hm? Hotel, bar, restaurant, and entertainment expense all rolled into one. We spend less for a week on the boat than a week in a hotel. Money well spent, it's good for the sole! Tony

Boating less ??? No way !! What we are doing is boating more and staying longer....maybe running less...but enjoying the water more as the Yachts are all staying close to home...so the choice spots are less crowded.

I cant quit my boat......... Its something I need to do..... my mental health is dependent on it despite the cost of gas.

Been going out a couple times a week so far. Hopfully more when the weather improves and kids are out of School.

Life's priorities: Food, boat/shelter, clothes.

Boating is my favorite hobby, relaxation, stress-reducer, family activity, et al -- basically, my MAIN purpose for working!

OK, this has ranged all over the place (I understand Alasgun's personal perspective but "thank God and Big Oil"????) so I guess I'll chime in. Price gouging aside, and you would have to be deaf and blind (or tied to the oil industry for your livelihood) not to realize the whole business is and has been for a long time crooked as hell, unrelated to true supply and demand forces, and intentionally manipulated with the blessing of the federal government, but hey, the question is: Are we boating less because of gas prices?

More or less coincidental with the rapid rise to $3.00+/gallon we went from a 4 mpg CD22 carrying 46 gallons to a 3 mpg CD25 carrying 100 gallons (10 mpg if I just slow down to 6 knots, but I just can't seem to do that...), so we have a bit of a double whammy...the answer is "sort of" - instead of boating less we are aiming for shorter distances for our regular weekend cruising. We now favor the quick jaunts out from Shilshole over to Bainbridge, Vashon, Poulsbo, Gig Harbor, etc., typically a 20 - 40 mile round trip, over the longer trips we used to take for weekend overnighters. Plus there is a lot less tow vehicle gas involved starting in Seattle instead of Blaine. But the price of gas does not deter me (I am NOT speaking for "Patty here"...) from the vacation cruises, such as Memorial Day to Princess Louisa or the really big one for me, the Inside Passage cruise I am doing in June. As has already been pointed out, this STILL costs less than a vacation involving air fare, hotels, restaurant meals and tickets to Disney World or whatever. And a lot cheaper than therapy, and everything else that has been said. Bottom line is, I would rather spend my money cruising my C-Dory than doing anything else...

I don't think Mr Anderson has ever got over me picking on his Sea Hawks back during the super bowl! Mike on Huda Thunkit. (Alasgun)

Nope, picking on the Seahawks is Captain's Choice Charlie's job! BTW - "Mr Anderson" is my Dad, Mike...

Just a pricing report:

Paid $4.75 a gallon this last weekend at Bridge Bay Resort on Shasta Lake.

If gas gets to $5 a gallon at the stations, we'll be paying $6.50 up there!

(And I'll start carrying gas down to the marina again!)

Joe.

Interesting comments.

Would appreciate some information as to just how, exactly, the oil companies are manipulating prices. If you have data, and can provide links to such data, that would really be appreciated.

Who do they talk with, how do they manage to set prices among themselves, and how do they maintain contact with Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iran, Venezuela, and others, in order to screw us, the American Public, as you are suggesting?

Some detailed information would be helpful.

Thanks,

Ken

Come on Ken, now you are asking us to back up our allegations with facts. You know that's not fair. We should be able to make any unfounded allegation we want to and have it repeated as fact and the truth. If we have to back it up with fact, we would be subdued.

This was sent to me, a guy has developed a process that extracts what he calls the molecule HHO from H2O. Check out his demonstration and applications -- sure hope this is real, if so, we have a whole new energy source, might affect every aspect of our lives!

Here's the link, select "See the Demonstration", then hit your 'spacebar' (don't use their video link just yet, I think it has a link problem within their site), then select "Fox News Video." Comments pleeeeease...

I couldn't successfully watch any video, let alone a video by a national news organization, Steve. What I saw was heavy with possibilities but pretty sparse when it came to anything already accomplished.

Extracting hydrogen from seawater has been around for decades. Nuclear submarines have been doing it for over 50 years now - they extract oxygen from seawater so they can stay submerged without surfacing for air, and the byproduct, hydrogen, was discarded. It's a good assumption that extraction by any method from seawater or fresh is still prohibitably expensive. O2 generators are about as reliable as a Dodge drive train due to the corrosive effects of salt water itself.

Dunno what "HHO" is, Sea Wolf Joe will expound I hope.

I read through the site and their "scientific paper" - two words - it's crap.
