Boat license renewal

Just got mine in the mail - $209.25 for sticker for 2006. According to the notice that includes a "$5.00 Derilict Fee". How did they know I'm a derilict?

Seriously though, anyone know what that fee covers? Also what the typical amount people here (Washington) and in other states pay for their annual boat license? Just curious. I'm assuming that Washington is lower than California and higher than a lot of places but don't really know.

Heck Roger, we all knew it so that the state of Washington has made it official I guess then it must be true.

I live in Florida and my annual on the 22' Dory is $37.00. I would be guessing but I would bet good money that the "derlict fee" is to offset the expense the state has to spend to remove abandoned vessels from the waterways. Of course here in Florida , you can't find anyone who will take responsabilty for this chore. They all pass the buck, from the local marine enforcement to the Govenors office. When they get in our way we drag them offshore in the dead of nite and sink them to make our own private artificial reefs. Those old Boston Whalers are a bugger to sink. :smile

CA higher? We paid a $10 registration fee.

Interesting. I used to pay a fortune down there to license my car (like $300 in the late 80's) so I just assumed that boat licenses would be higher too.

Roger,

I registered my 1991 22 in WA in Dec 05 for $63.00. That's for 6 months.

If I remember it was about $20 fee and the rest taxes. I don't have my renewal bill yet.

When I lived in CA, it was 2 years for $15.00 for the sticker, but then the county tax man sent you a bill for about 1.25% of assessed value. I was paying about $75.00/year in tax.

Yes the registration is only $10... but we also pay a personal property tax of 1% of the appraised value.... (California)

My 25 was about $360. But keep in mind WA doesn't have a state income tax. On the other hand WA has one of the highest liquor taxes in the union. I think only AK is higher if I remember right.

I don't smoke, and therefore I am saving a ton of money there, both for the smoke and the health problems. So I can afford to spend it on the boat and booze. The beer is free. (Aside from the very major investment in the brewery.

I guess if I gave up my martini's in the evening I could afford a Nordic Tug. Wonder what the yearly tag on one of those is?

just got mine for a 2005 c-22, its $239.25. man thats alot. Are you guys in california talking about the boat or the trailer?? I have been gone for 4 years and dont remember what it was on my starcraft down there.

In Michigan the registration is $115.00 for 3 years for my CD 22 and the Inflatable is $14.00 for 3 years. We register almost anything that floats. Michigan now registers Trailers for a flat fee for as long as you own the trailer. I paid $75 that is a lot more than the $12 a season I was paying. Let see 75 divided by 12 = 6.25 years I must keep the boat and trailer - no problem.

It's only $10 for the state registration--------------but $350 for the county personal property tax.
The county gets 1% + .0252% for elem school bond + .0145% for hi school bond + .013% for comm college bond + .0058% for water.

Montana went to a gouge-you- once system. They tax by the foot with some bizarre outcomes. For example, a 20' canoe with a small engine costs as much as a 20' Lund with 150 ponies. The 22 cruiser will cost $380 to license. But.....it is a life time license for the original owner. No more taxes unless the boat is sold. Same with boat trailers.
