Boat cover for 22 cruiser.

Does anyone out there know of a boat cover that will fit a 22 cruiser and doesn't cost an arm and a leg? Any feed back on quality and fit would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Bill

I hear dave at King Marine makes a really nice custom cover. I think I was quoted about 1100.00 for it. That is about 800-900 less than what some of the local canvas shops are asking. His phone number is 206-271-2294.
Good luck.

I bought a cover online. I think it was from Iboats. It seems that is was less than $1000 and looked good. The only problem was that they only had the original pattern and my boat has the tall top so it did not fit. If you have a standard boat it is a good deal.

King Marine did one for my 22. Very nice job of fitting around my tall radar arch. I have been very pleased with it. It was $1000, but so well built I feel it is worth every penny. I have some pictures in my album

Opsal, that is a very nice looking cover. I was hoping to find a mass produced generic cover that would fit. Has anyone tried one that worked well?

I purchased a Sunbrella cover for my 22' at www.iboats.com. It cost in the neighborhood of $800 and is custom fit for the 22' C-Dory. If you go to that site, it says they are selling 40-50% off retail. You could also choose from a lesser quality material than Sunbrella and save even more. They have three material choices.

They have a list of boat manufacturers. Even though C-Dory isn't listed (it used to be), they "supposedly" still have the pattern at the factory and will make one up. I don't know for sure. But this is a good starting place. (I got this bit of info from a phone rep at I Boats)

A year after I purchased the cover I put a radar unit on the roof. The cover still fits, even if it is a little snug.

Hope you have some success in finding a suitable cover. Let us know what you find out.

Hi Folks,

If you purchase a Green Tarp for cheep bucks, approximately about 26' by about 12' (not sure exact size but you measure from behind the engine over the top to over the bow sprit for the length. From above the waterline over the top of the cabin to the other size for the width. Use heavy duty shock cord. It should work for you. Total cost should come about $50.00. Not the prettiest, but cost effective.

Just so happens I have a C-Dory cover for a 22' Cruiser w/OB for sale! It's a Westland about 2 yrs. old, gray, great shape except for one tiny hole in bow. I want $250 plus shipping from Astoria, OR. Are you interested?

I first tried a cover for a 22' motor home. Was too big, but I gathered up the excess with bungees and it lasted less then a year before a big wind riped it to shreds. Next, a cover for a 20' motor home, better fit, but wind destroyed it too. Then I called King, they sent me a fitted cover for $900 (1998 price). It's still on the boat today, and holding up well. I am sorry I wasted my time and $ fooling around with cheap motor home covers. The King is what I should have done in the first place.....Buck.

Hi Butzplay, thanks for your offer. I have a boat that is very simular to your C-Dory but not close enough for a custom cover to fit mine. I was hoping to find a universal 22-23 foot pilothouse cover that I could use. Instead I have decided to try a $60 17x30 tarp with bungee cords and see how it works.

Thanks,
Bill

Bill,

Be careful with some of the gray 'triple layer' plastic tarps around your sheer and boot stripes and other colored gel coat regions, they tend to scratch if they flap/rub in the wind for hours. Don't ask me how I know...

As mentioned, many C-Dory folks go with Angola Canvas for an on-line "off the rack but custom" (if that makes sense - I just mean they have patterns and make it then send it to you).

I have not bought one, but I have seen a friend's and I looked into it. One note is that the "standard" cover (meaning the one they will make if you don't say anything to the contrary) doesn't quite come down far enough to cover the sheer stripe, which can be prone to fading in UV. However if you let them know that you would like it to (presuming you do), they will "customize" it for you.

My Angola Canvas cover, does cover the shear strip. No issue with fading. Purchased about 3 years ago.

Ah okay, maybe they have changed. I had noticed a few that didn't cover the sheer stripe, so when I called them I asked, and they said something along the lines of "well we can extend it so that it does cover the stripe no problem." Maybe they decided to incorporate it into the "standard" cover now (good idea, if so).

I had a cover made at Angola in Nov of 15. Had them add a foot to the standard cover. It does cover the strip and adds about 10 inches to the sides.Depending on material cost $660.00 Fits very well. Lew 25
