Have been out of the loop for a while. Not real happy with the bilge area and my Rule bilge pump on my 22' Angler. Switchs always seem to be a problem, whether on auto or manual. Have considered adding a manual. Any thoughts? Thanxs Chica
 
Where is your pump located? (some are aft of the bulkhead, some forward and some in the aft sump.

What auto switch do you have now.

Every C Dory I have been on already has a manual as well as the automatic switch. Do you currently have a manual switch?

There are other things to consider, including a cockpit cover, smaller tubing, putting in a check valve, and a separate switch, as well as a second bilge pump.

My pump is is in the aft sump, I have a switch in the cabin and aside in the splash well, aft. I have both manual and automatic switchs. I was thinking of adding a manual pump. The bilge is never dry. Tried a check valve and was not happy with that. I have two Rule pumps in the sump, GPM?, boat is in storage on Vancouver Is.

The only kind of "pump" that will make it "completely" dry is a sponge and paper towell. As for GPM of your pumps, depends on which Rule pumps you have. They make many.

Bob,
Great piece on bilge pumps, batteries, wiring etc. I will make some changes on my set-up.
I do have my present one direct wired to the batteries w/o fuses or breakers.

I would wonder why you have water in the bilge in the first place unless it is attributed to rain. I removed our check valve on the bilge discharge line as it was always sticking preventing the water from discharging. Our boat an 08 Venture came with a manual switch for both the cockpit bilge area and the cabin bilge pump. Just on or off , no auto setting. We added the second with bilge pump with a built in switch wired direct to the battery.
