WD-40 attracts fish. Spray a LITTLE on live bait or lures and you will be catching the big one in no time. Also, it's a lot cheaper Than the chemical attractants that are made for just that purpose. I'm going to have to disagree with Joe's statement above about generally agreed upon reason. From what I heard this Winter at a fishing seminar at the Seattle Boat Show - the reason WD-40 worked on fishing lures is that it "washed" off the human scent from the lure. The solvent came off the lure as soon as it hit the water but it took the smell of man off the lure, which Salmon are quick to detect.

I do know folks who spray nightcrawlers with it, thinking it improves the crawler's scent appeal to the fish.
