Ben Toland's Next Boat

Maybe you could buy the 29 for a main boat and the 22 center console for a tender. That way you could tie them up side by side, step back and say "That is next to the ugliest boat that I ever seen" and be talking about either one.

You get the award... So artfully said! I could not agree more. Love my CDory, but in my humble opinion, the 29 and the open cockpit 22 are absolutely awful.

I have visions of big clorox bottle, and cut up clorox bottle.

Actually, I think the 16 footer hull, configured as an center console, would be a nice boat.

I actually think the 22 center console is not a bad looking boat. I mean if you move the console to starboard and forward, and put a hard top on the thing, it's pretty nice :wink: . But this thread is about Ben Toland's new boat. Let's get back to talking about that.

I like most aspects of the new design but am not so sure about the removable bulkhead. If one is planning on removing it, it lessens the options for attachments of various items to it - in particular, the fire extinguisher, any wiring and a cockpit light. I suppose those things can all be mounted on the cabin top, but I like mounting them to the bulkhead. That way the through holes are horizontal and under the cover of the cabin top overhang.
 
So is am I correct in thinking that the table doesn't make into a bed? Also, someone mentioned this boat being in a certain price point but I see no pricing information, did I miss something.
 
I like the new Toland design, although I would personally want a larger version.
I'll be first in line if Toland or CD ever make a 25 ANGLER!

Good points, but I'll suggest they are easily solved using the same modular design concepts as the rest of the boat.

Fire extinguisher just needs another bracket elsewhere. Related to this, one of the things Ben and Dave have talked about, is having mounting blocks in strategic locations glassed to the hull. For many things, this might prevent drilling holes in the boat. Properly designed, one could have simple brackets with standard hole patterns that would allow moving things around as one desires.

Anything electric on the removable bulkhead, could be dealt with using a single modular plug with sufficient connections.
 
Hey, just because it's removable doesn't mean you have to remove it.
 
Joe – thank you for your complements on the web site. Ben nit picked me to death about it. I think he was paying me back for some of the things I picked on him about the plug before he had a chance to perfect it.

Marty – I wanted to use Toland in the boat name somewhere, but lost that argument. I decided I was not going to lose on the company name so I registered the domain tolandmarine.com and started the web site. Didn’t give Ben a choice.

Spencer – the table does not make into a bed. We have to leave some things for the user to modify.

Larry – the larger version is a couple of years away but will have some preliminary drawings in a few weeks.

Another comment or two about the boat and the response from this group.

The response on our site through the feedback form has been tremendous plus emails through our site and emails & PM’s to me. Trying to answer them has been a pleasant chore. We were un-prepared for the volume of responses and did not have a good system at the time for responding. We now have that corrected. If someone sent feedback or an email and did not get a personal reply, please resend it and we will reply in a timely manner. There were a few reply’s that were returned to us as undeliverable. Possibly because the person is concerned about getting on a spam list and did not use a legit email address. We will never sell or share anyone’s email address or send unsolicited email. PS: Roger – I missed your concern about the cock pit light in my earlier post. I think Bill answered most of your questions but if you look at the line drawings, you will see a roof overhand behind the cabin bulkhead. The cockpit light can/will be mounted there. It may be something we will offer.

What kind of production capacity can be expected from this company?
Ten hulls/year, or 500?

Sounds to me like there could be a five-year waiting list...
 
Zelpha, I'm 73 and I have several words of advice: don't wait, get a C-Dory now. We're going boating this summer, so I don't miss anything.

Boris, You are right! My son David has a 2003 22( Chivita) which I much enjoy when in Sitka, AK and I would really like to get Toland's new boat now. One problem is that I have 4 boats at my house now (ZELPHA is one) and I must make room. Also that Toland's is not available yet (may be 5 Yrs). Life goes on but is hard without a C-Dory. Dusty could tell us more than anyone about age and a C-Dory. Best to all of you, Zelpha

Old Dusty loves his C-Dory and plans to use it for several more years. You two young fellers in your 70's gotta keep active! I'll admit that I don't boat as much as I used to, but I enjoy every hour I spend aboard.

I'd sure like to be fishing up there with young David! That's fisherman's paradise IMO.

There is a 22' C-Dory in it's slip up here in this fisherman's paradise for you to take it out and play with and a whole hotel staff to listen about the the one that got away.
