After reading the C-Brat posts we decided that a 2" memory foam topper and Travasak would be the best and easiest solution for our CD-22. As I was about to hit the order button for the Travasak, my wife commented that our heads will be right over the porta-pottie. Are they really that odorfree, or do you move the portapottie to the cockpit when overnighting?

Fun planning, huh? :D You will really appreciate that memory foam and Travasak. Now, regarding the porta-potty... we have the CD-25, so we don't have a porta-potty on this boat, but we've had them on other boats. If you put some potty chemical in the bottom holding tank of the porta-potty (and I really recommend that), it will eliminate the "waste" smells... mostly. But, you will still have a chemical smell any time the valve is open. Close the valve and the smell will mostly go away after a few minutes. Still, I am with your wife and prefer to not sleep over the potty... which really becomes a problem if either of you have to use it in the middle of the night. :shock: Of course, you may be young enough that it isn't a concern. :wink:

I'd vote for putting it at the far side of the cabin or in the cockpit, keeping in mind that you may have to use it in that location, in the dark.

The Travasak and 2" memory foam works great for us. We keep the porta-pottie in the cockpit most all the time not just at night and thats more for convenience then odor at least in the storage state :lol: . On long cruises the Honda 2000 generator is stored in the spot designed for the porta-pottie. Just had to notch out a small area in the cushion base above it so the handle would fit.

On our 22 we had the memory foam put in a new mattress cover then used the Travasack. Wonderful sleeping. Be sure to order the Travasack for the V-Berth it will fit much better.

We have used potties for years. If you use a dedorant you will not smell anything except the deordorant when you flush the pottie. Ours stayed under the V-Berth during and was relocated to the aft end of the cabin at night.

PS We always cleaned the cat litter box after each use-not any odor from that source.
 
our porta-potti just lives in its niche at the head of the Vee-berth. We've never noticed an odor. Maybe just bad noses. we sometimes move it out into the space between the dinette and cooking area but not because of any odor issue.
 
We have used porta-potties for years, and presently have four! Handled properly, odor is a non-issue; when odor is detected, it is a signal to empty and put in clean water and fresh chemical deodorant.

At night, we move the potti in the aisle to the back of the cabin for a different reason: It is then available for use during the night without disrupting the sleeping area.
 
We keep ours tucked under the splashwell as far as it will go, and use the space under the berth for storing clothes in a plastic box. Works great for us. As far as smell, different brands of potty chemicals work better than others, at least that's our take on it.

Merv, I was going to ask WHY four porta potties on a CD 22?.....but then I figured that he did that for extended cruises.
 
Don't intend to hi-jack this but I just ordered a Travasak V-berth set. Didn't even know about it until reading this thread. Thanks again, as usual.


And know that the bedding is a perfect investment as it will keep my wife toasty and warm, which is a good thing.
 
No, we do NOT have four porta-potties in our CD-22: ONLY one!

A second one, which we use regularly, we keep in the loft at our cottage, which serves as the "master sleeping area." This spares my wife and me from having to climb down the ladder-like stairs to the bathroom in the middle of the night.

A third one is in our SCAMP trailer. This one is not used regularly. But when we do use the SCAMP, it serves a good purpose!

The fourth one is in another boat I have, a small sailboat called the Peep Hen. This one is used more for daytime use, when we are on the boat.

Count 'em: that's four!
 
Where can I order a Travasak for a V Berth? Is it wide enough (at the head) to allow both sleepers to take advantage of the full length of the V Berth? If so it sounds perfect. Thanks in advance.
