New C-dory owner here......... (and the crowd goes wild)
Very unused 2007 25 Cruiser, just shaking down the boat and
I can't seem to get the house batteries to charge with the
motors running. Cleaned the terminals, but still no luck. Help.
Any thoughts and thanks so much. The good boat we call Charis.

Welcome to the Brats!

Does the start battery charge?

If it does, check the batt switch first.

Put a voltmeter on the house battery when the engines are not running. Start them up and measure again.

Should be around ~12v with the engines off and ~14v with them running.

Let us know.

Does this mean you can otherwise charge the house batteries, i.e, without the engines running? Do you have a shore power charging set up that works? What kind of battery switches do you have? Sounds like this problem should be solvable with a volt meter and using a little process of elimination.

And congratulations on the boat! Hope you have many years of enjoyment.

First thought, ---> switches. Otherwise, follow what Charlie said.

Congrats on the new to you boat. Enjoy,

Wednesday, i had a dead battery when i went to start my motor. Two brand new batteries last month, I always forget that how i have my two batteries connected to the Perko switch that only the battery selected on the Perko switch. ( directly to the motor ) . is the one that is getting charged. Seems that this year i have forgotten to alternate from one battery to the other to keep both batteries fully charged. I keep thinking that if i have selected the starting battery to run down river the house battery will automatically get charged also. Tug

You are all the best......., great thoughts......, yes, the house batteries charge on shore power...., I'll start with testing the switches and move on from there.
