Barkely Sound

No trailer problems because I keep the boat in the water, but if you leave from the Deception Pass area I'm sure we can find safe storage for the trailer!!

Congrats on the new purchase. I'll have to head over that way and give it a try. Gotta do a Jimmy's Pizza with Roger one of these days... so that's a good chance to get a Latte.

Best,

Dusty

I found this thread with some good info on Barkley Sound. We're planning on spending about a month there this Summer. We're just now debating the early morning dash past Sooke to Bamfield or trailering to Port Alberni.

El and Bill, I spent a week there two years ago. beautiful place went in the first week of sept. Weather was very nice. We had two days of rough water off shore, we were going 7, and 24 miles offshore to fish. We found plenty offshore but few in the sound itself.
Islands were quite beautiful whales, seals, etc
We put in at port Alberni and boated out to Barkley had no problems with parking etc.

pm me if you would like more info. Or I can give you my phone. michael

At one time the C-Dory dealer posted on this sight that they might be able to help with parking and if I remember right launch ramp. When we were up there a few years before SleepyC:moon , we really enjoyed Port Alberni, and the trip out on the "Lady Rose" was a real treat. Not nearly enough time on the water, or at the town.

We have been thinking of trailering up to Port Alberni, due to work time restraints.

Harvey,

Here is a response from Steve Cyr at the Port Alberni Boat House regarding parking.

There is no problem parking your truck and trailer here. There are several ways we can handle it. We prefer if you come and go when we are open(Monday- Friday 8:30-5:00 and Saturdays 9-4 closed Sundays) that way we can lock it up in our compound. If not we can still make it available for an after hours pick up. We would charge 30 dollars per week. We don’t fill up, so we can accommodate any dates. Fishing advice is free.

As mentioned in another thread, I am considering going up by water sometime in June. However, I'd imagine that you'd be cruising much faster in your Tomcat than I would be in the 22.

We took Journey On to the west coast of Vancouver Isle. Judy wrote about that trip: Journey On Travels. Covers the three sounds: Barkley, Clayquot and Nootka, with the Broughtons thrown in for free. Nothing new that hasn't been described above, but some specifics about the ferry, where to launch and leave the truck and a bunch of beautiful anchorages.

We used "A Cruising Guide to the West Coast of Vancouver Island" by Don Watmough. Ours was an early edition, but I believe that a new version is out. We had a ball, especially in some of the small towns in Nootka Sound.

When do you plan to go to Barkley Sound, and how long will you stay? We are looking for a summer destination. We have been there by RV, but not by boat.

Roger (Dreamer) Thanks for the:

"response from Steve Cyr at the Port Alberni Boat House"

I had been interested in that specifically because we talked about trailering up to Port Alberni. Would like to get more time on the water up there, than getting there and back.

June huh? No help from a long weekend that month :sad

We will keep watching.
