Bad Day at Mystery Bay

"It's stopped raining! I'll think I'll go for a walk". As Janet left the boat today around 2:00PM, I was taking a snooze. 2 minutes later, friends alerted me that she was down on the dock and in a lot of pain. Everything went into fast-forward mode and the bottom line is: After an ambulance ride and 4 hours in ER, she is in Jefferson County Hospital with 7 breaks in 5 ribs and controling the pain with a self operated painkiller pump.

We can't say enough about the EMTs on Marrowstone Island and the staff at the Hospital. We had 6 EMTs on our boat and 2 ambulances in the parking lot. She's had a boat load of high powered pain killers today and has quickly learned to love them. Ultra Sound tests eliminated any other injuries and tomorrow may bring some high tech anesthetics being used on the individual ribs.

Lots of logistics to deal with, me in Sequim, Boat in Mystery Bay, Truck and trailer at John Wayne Marina. We'll get janet home first and the rest will get worked out. Those of you who share our Faith, we covet your prayers.

So sorry to hear about your bad luck. Both of you will be in my thoughts and prayers. Broken ribs are no fun and 7 of them is terrible.

Roger and Janet, Oh my, this is bad news. So sorry that this has happened, but thank goodness you were at a dock with quick medical attention nearby.
Roger, if you need any help with the boat and or truck and trailer, I am just over an hour away, and I have nothing going on today or tomorrow. I could also stay with Janet while you collect your boat and trailer. Please let me know if I can help out in any way.
Thoughts and prayers to you both.

OMG that's terrible news, sorry to hear about that. I had one broken rib once from a motorcycle wreck and it was unreal. When you lay down your ribs stretch and it really hurts, getting up is the same, and if you sneeze...forget it.

I hope she recovers quickly. I assume she slipped on the dock and did not fall for any other reason?

Roger, So sorry to hear that. OUr thougts and paryers wil be with you and if we can help you in any way let us know. we are only a short ferry ride away (when it runs).

Roger, we're here to help, just let us know. Transportation, homecare, hospital visit, whatever we can do. With backgrounds in nursing and respiratory care, we REALLY know what kind of pain and rehab she's going through! :cry That's the story of Harvey's last day working respiratory...six big guys holding 1 tiny, crazy person and a leg got free and hit Harvey in the side resulting in 3 broken ribs. Harvey says he got "kicked" out of Respiratory.
Our prayers are certainly with you both.

Roger, just hope the trip home goes well. For Janet the next couple of weeks are going to be filled with thinking about every breath. Believe me, life is easier when we don't have to do it that way. Thank goodness for good pain medication. Lots of prayers for you both today and through the coming times. Flowers to her. :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose :rose

Roger,
Our thoughts and prayers are with Janet! Happy to hear that she was so well taken care of during her ordeal. (Good that you had friends on the dock that knew where to find you!).

Hi folks,

Janet came home this afternoon with the pain under control and walking without too much dificulty. She was overwhelmed by the good wishes from C-Brats around the country. I was also overwhelmed by the offers of assistance with logistics and home care. The C-Brats are an amazing Family.

I have a good friend helping me tomorrow. We'll move the boat to Port Townsend and retrieve it there and trailer home. Janet and I thank you all for being there for us. God bless you all.
